The first locked safe you meet in The Sinking City 2 sits on the kitchen wall of Apartment No. 5, the home of Algernon, inside the building next to the blocked Radio Store. Opening it early gives you healing and ammo before a run of fights, so it is worth clearing before you move on.
Quick answer: Enter 1908 on the wall safe in Apartment No. 5 to open it. The number is the year the Radio Store opened, shown as “Since 1908” on the sign above the store entrance.
Where the safe is located
You reach this area while heading for the Radio Store. Its front door is blocked, so you go through the apartment building beside it instead. Enter the building, climb to the upper floor, and go into Apartment No. 5. The safe is on the wall in the kitchen, with a note attached.
The note is a letter titled “To Martin,” written by Algernon to his son. It says the combination is his “proudest, most miraculous moment.” On its own this tells you nothing usable, so you need a second clue from inside the store.

Tip: On higher investigation difficulty the key phrases in the letters are not highlighted, so you have to work out the connection yourself. Opening the investigation screen and connecting the “To Martin” and “From A Sister” evidence rewards you and confirms the reasoning.
Enter the code and confirm it worked
Return to Apartment No. 5, interact with the wall safe, and set the four combination wheels to 1908. The safe opens immediately and gives you access to the loot inside. Unlocking it also completes the related investigation and grants a starting achievement tied to the wall safe.

Note: Be ready for a fight after opening it. An undead enemy attacks as you leave the room, and more monsters appear once you push aside the shelves blocking the store’s front door.
What’s inside the safe
| Item | Quantity | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Dolorocide Pill | 1 | Healing item |
| Handgun Ammo | 14 | Ammunition for the pistol |
The extra handgun ammo matters here because you are about to face several enemies after collecting the fuses from the Radio Store. Aim for the glowing weak spots on the undead to deal more damage and spend less ammo, which is especially useful on harder difficulties.
