The Watcher does not appear in the official character lineup of Slay the Spire 2. The early access build, released March 5, 2026, by Mega Crit, ships with five playable characters, and the monk who defined stance dancing in the first game is not one of them. If you are trying to pick her on the select screen, you will not find her there by default.

Is the Watcher in Slay the Spire 2?
No. The sequel keeps the Ironclad, the Silent, and the Defect from the original cast, then adds two brand-new heroes, the Regent and the Necrobinder. The Watcher was left out of the launch roster. Her absence is acknowledged in-universe with no explanation, and Mega Crit has not confirmed if or when she will join the game.
Because the game is in early access, the roster can still change. New cards, relics, and characters may be added over time, so a future patch could bring her back. For now, though, there is no in-game button or unlock condition that gives you the Watcher.
Slay the Spire 2 character roster and unlock order
You start with the Ironclad. Every other character unlocks by simply playing a run with the previous one and getting as far as you can. You do not need to win the run to progress to the next unlock.
| Character | How to unlock | Signature mechanic |
|---|---|---|
| Ironclad | Available from the start | Strength, block, self-healing |
| Silent | Play one run as the Ironclad (also unlocks Neow) | Poison, Shivs, and the new Sly keyword |
| Regent | Play one run as the Silent | Star energy plus a forgeable Sovereign Blade |
| Necrobinder | Play one run as the Regent | Summons Osty, applies Doom and other debuffs |
| Defect | Play one run as the Necrobinder | Orbs, plus new Glass Orbs and status-card builds |
| Random | Play one run as the Defect | Auto-selects a character for you |
The Watcher is not part of this chain. Clearing the full roster ends at the Random option, not at the monk.

How to add the Watcher in Slay the Spire 2 through mods
Since the game has no native way to play her, fan creators have stepped in. Community mods that recreate the Watcher are distributed through Nexus Mods, where modders rebuild her stances, cards, and relics to work inside the sequel.

Installing any mod carries a few caveats worth knowing before you start. Mods are not made by Mega Crit, so they can break after a patch, behave differently from the original character, or affect achievements and run stability. Treat a modded Watcher as an unofficial extra rather than a finished, supported feature.
You will know a mod installed correctly when the Watcher appears as a selectable option on the character screen alongside the official five. If she does not show up, the most common reasons are a mod built for a different game version, a missing mod loader, or files placed in the wrong folder.
What the Watcher does in the original game
If you want her back because of how she plays, here is the kit that made her stand out. The Watcher is a blind ascetic and a master of stances, built around switching states mid-combat to control damage and energy.
| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Starting HP | 72 |
| Starting relic | Pure Water (adds a Miracle to your hand each combat) |
| Starting deck | 4 Strike, 4 Defend, 1 Eruption, 1 Vigilance |
| Core stances | Wrath (double damage dealt and taken), Calm (gain energy on exit), Divinity |
| Key tools | Scry, Retain cards, and strong energy generation |
Her power comes from stance dancing, moving between Wrath and Calm so she bursts down enemies on the right turn while staying protected on the wrong one. Cheap, reusable stance changers plus a card like Rushdown can even loop into a near-endless turn. That depth is exactly what fans are recreating through mods while the official version stays absent.
Will the Watcher return officially?
It is possible but not confirmed. Slay the Spire 2 is still in early access, and the developer has the room to add more characters as development continues. No official date or patch has been announced for the Watcher joining the sequel. Until that happens, the official roster remains the Ironclad, Silent, Regent, Necrobinder, and Defect, and a community mod is the only route to the monk.
