Geralt can end up with far more company than most players expect in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, but only two of those relationships actually stick. Yennefer of Vengerberg and Triss Merigold are the committed romances that shape the epilogue, and the rest are one-night flings that leave the main story untouched.
Quick answer: Commit to only one of Yennefer or Triss. Chasing both triggers “It Takes Three to Tango” and loses you both. The other five options are casual and change nothing.
How to romance Yennefer of Vengerberg
Yennefer is Geralt’s long-standing love from the book series, and locking her in takes three dialogue choices spread across the main quest in Skellige and Kaer Morhen.
If Geralt keeps away from Triss and commits fully to Yennefer, the two retire together, far from politics and monster hunting.
How to romance Triss Merigold
Triss offers the warmer of the two committed paths, and you reunite with her in Novigrad. Two dialogue choices lock her in.
Commit to Triss and avoid Yennefer, and the couple builds a life in Kovir, where Triss advises the king and Geralt takes the occasional contract.
The “It Takes Three to Tango” trap
You can pursue both sorceresses in a single playthrough, but the game punishes it. Telling each of them you love her triggers the quest “It Takes Three to Tango.” Yennefer and Triss coordinate, invite Geralt to the Kingfisher Inn, and leave him chained to a bed alone until Dandelion has to free him.
After that, both refuse any further romance for the rest of the game. If you want a committed partner, pick exactly one and decline the other. Staying single carries no penalty, and the casual encounters below remain open.
The trap is set by the second key choice in each route (telling both you love them). Kissing both earlier does not doom you on its own.
Casual flings that don’t affect the main romance
Five women can share a night with Geralt without touching your relationship with Yennefer or Triss and without changing either romance ending. Each is triggered inside its own quest.

Keira Metz
Geralt meets the sorceress Keira in the village of Midcopse in Velen. After you finish “A Towerful of Mice,” she asks a final favor, which turns into a candlelit meal and a riverside night. Accept her offer to seal it.
Jutta an Dimun
Jutta is a shieldmaiden on the isle of Faroe in Skellige who only beds someone who beats her in combat. Defeat her during “Iron Maiden” without using bombs, signs, or potions, then meet her at night in Harviken.
Madame Sasha
Sasha is part of the “High Stakes” Gwent tournament held at the Passiflora in Novigrad. You can skip winning the full tournament: defeat her at the table or agree to help her. When she invites you to dinner at the Kingfisher Inn, accept.
Shani
Shani, a Redanian doctor from Oxenfurt, returns in the Hearts of Stone expansion and offers the most developed fling outside the two sorceresses. Near the end of “Dead Man’s Party,” stick around and bring her a gift. Flowers lead to the more tender scene, while mead or brandy plays for laughs.
Syanna
Syanna is the estranged sister of Duchess Anna Henrietta in the Blood and Wine expansion. Choose to save her and enter her illusion, then during “Beyond Hill and Dale” pick the option to let her have her way with you after the giant is defeated. This encounter does lock you into a specific Blood and Wine outcome.
The courtesans at the Passiflora, Crippled Kate’s, and The Belles of Beauclair are paid encounters with no story consequence whatsoever.
What the romance choice changes in the ending
Your romance does not decide Ciri’s fate. That comes from separate choices during her quests. What it does decide is who Geralt ends up with. Commit to Yennefer and the two retire together; commit to Triss and they settle in Kovir. Pick neither and Geralt’s epilogue is a lonelier one.
You know a committed romance worked when the full love scene plays for that character and the final epilogue slides show Geralt with your chosen partner rather than alone. If both sorceresses coldly refuse you afterward, “It Takes Three to Tango” has already fired, and both routes are closed for that save.
