Smelt Bronze and Smelt Steel both need two inputs, so stock the second component before you commit to those. Coal is a vendor item rather than a mined one.

Sarah Killian <Mining Supplier> stands in the same stall and stocks what you need to start swinging at nodes:
- Mining Pick, required in your bags to mine ore veins

Buy the pick during the same visit. Without one in your inventory, ore nodes out in the world will not respond to clicks even with the profession learned.
Confirming the training went through
After you pay for a rank, that entry drops out of Brom Killian’s training list and the Mining skill in your profession panel shows the new cap. For a first-time miner, the Mining ability itself appears in your spellbook once Apprentice is purchased, and the skill bar starts at 1. If the list still shows the same rank you clicked, the purchase did not register and you can simply select it again.
