Valor Mortis: Blunderbuss Shotgun Location

The Blunderbuss is a two-shot hand cannon in Valor Mortis. Each shot hits a spread of enemies at close range, and it is built to stagger them rather than finish them. You can pick it up early, during Chapter 3 – Rendezvous. Because the game has no map, getting there means reading the landmarks between a lantern and a parked carriage.

Quick answer: In Fallen Village, travel from the Fields lantern toward Marketplace. Climb into the ornate carriage at the end of the village road and take the Blunderbuss from the blue display table inside.

Where the Blunderbuss is in Fallen Village

The weapon sits inside a decorated carriage parked at the end of a road in Fallen Village, the third region in the game. You reach that region during Chapter 3 – Rendezvous. Fallen Village has four lanterns: Fields, Marketplace, Orchard and Path of Fire. The carriage lies on the stretch between Fields and Marketplace, so the Fields lantern is the place to start.

Valor Mortis has no in-game map. You have to work from what you can see at the lantern, which is why the route below is written in landmarks: gates, fields, houses and water.

Route from the Fields lantern to the Blunderbuss carriage

Interact with the Fields lantern using the [E] REST prompt so you respawn nearby if things go wrong. Then set off down the muddy path leading away from it.
Keep to the path until you pass under an open wooden gate structure. The fields begin on the other side.

Run through the gap in the wooden barricade marked by a burning torch. Don’t turn off before this opening.
Cut straight through the flooded cornfield, where tall reeds line a waterlogged trail. A farmhouse stands beside the path as you cross.

Leave the field and follow the dirt path that runs between wooden houses and fences. This takes you into the village proper.

Find the cart with an orb on it next to the run-down building ahead, and shoot the orb. This opens the door into the building.

The door stays shut until the orb is shot. If you have already opened it on this save, you can walk straight through.

Go through the building and leave by the far side. You come out onto a path running along the water, with huts on the opposite bank.

Follow the village road past the last buildings. An ornate carriage is parked at the very end of it.

How to confirm you have the Blunderbuss

You’ll know the pickup worked almost immediately. After you inspect the gun in first person, Williams comments on it:

“A wicked piece of weaponry, indeed. Deadly at close quarters, I’d wager.”

Next, a tutorial window titled Blunderbuss appears and explains the weapon’s close-range role. Dismiss it with [E] CONTINUE. Before you leave, grab the ammunition boxes inside the carriage and the metal face mask collectible on the red velvet sofa.

Blunderbuss stats, upgrades and material costs

The Blunderbuss is a Firearm that fires special Ammunition. It holds 2 rounds, needs 3.5 seconds to reload and can fire again 0.2 seconds after a shot. Its traits are Staggering and hitting multiple enemies at once, and its focus is stopping enemies rather than finishing them. Every level keeps the same 3 posture damage and 100 posture damage cap. Upgrades raise the damage and the damage cap.

Upgrades unlock at set weapon levels. At level 5 you have to choose between two upgrades.

Infusing a grenade draws on Nephtoglobin and spends Ammunition, so every Stasis grenade reduces your two-shot capacity. The Musket is the other special-Ammunition Firearm; you find it in Vale of Wrath. It holds 1 round and takes 2.5 seconds to reload, with 150 damage and 20 posture damage at the start. Its upgrades follow the same Firearm Parts ladder as the Blunderbuss.

Refilling Blunderbuss ammunition

With only two rounds loaded, you’ll be refilling often. Special Cartridges are a consumable that adds 2 rounds to your Special Ammo pouch, and you can carry up to 3 of them. Other ways to keep the pouch topped up:

  • Special Cartridges can be found in Fallen Village, The Outskirts, University, Fortress, Vale of Wrath, City of Orphans and Cursed Hollow.
  • Volunteers drop them at 2-4-8% rates, and one conversation also gives them to you.
  • James’s Iron Bench sells them for 300 from chapter 5 (Crime) onward.
  • The Ammo Restock stat upgrade (Endurance, 4 ranks) adds 1 maximum Blunderbuss ammo and 1 special ammo refill per rank when you rest at a Lantern.
  • The Ammunition Drop Chance stat upgrade (Endurance, 4 ranks) raises the chance that enemies drop ammo by 5% per rank.

Since Fallen Village has Special Cartridges lying around and Volunteers among its enemies, you can start restocking the Blunderbuss in the same region where you pick it up.
