The Quarry section of Chapter 2 – Regroup drops you into the Valley of Ashes with no on-screen map and a vertical maze of winches, scaffolding, and cable crossings to work through. The whole stretch begins at a single lantern checkpoint and ends on a dirt road out of the canyon, with a red chest holding the Marksman’s Bane amber tucked away near the end.
Quick answer: From the Valley of Ashes lantern, ride the winch lift up, cross the quarry past both winches, take two ziplines, and follow the dirt road out. The watchtower chest near the final zipline holds Marksman’s Bane.
There is no map for this area, so the lantern is your only fixed reference point. Memorise the direction you face when you rest there before you set off.
Deal with the lunging quadrupedal creatures in the yard, then head up the wooden ramps on the right to reach the second winch. Turn it to swing a suspended cage platform into position.
Leap across the positioned cage platform onto the opposite walkways. Cross the planks to pick up the Lost Catalysts and the pistol ammunition waiting there.
Operate the next winch beside the crates to bring down the overhead mechanism. While turning it, use your pistol against the riflemen firing from across the canyon and the creature advancing toward you.
Grab the pistol ammunition from the wooden crate, then cross the plank bridge and follow the broken bridge path along the rock edges toward the wooden outpost ahead.
Cloaked riflemen guard the bridge platform at the outpost. Fire transmutation handles them well here, since it ignites them and spreads damage across the group.
Step off the landing and break the crates obstructing the ledge at the right corner. Then keep your balance on the long beam running horizontally to reach the watchtower frame.
Take the adjacent zipline handle down to ground level beside the mining shacks, then sprint down the unpaved road leading out of the canyon. Reaching the open dirt road into the forest marks the end of the Quarry section.
What the watchtower chest gives you: Marksman’s Bane
Marksman’s Bane is an amber, and this chest is the single placed copy in the game. It tops out at rank 1, so once you have it there is nothing further to upgrade. Equipping it lets you parry incoming bullets, and each successful parry hands you back a Pistol round. Against the riflemen that fill the Quarry and later areas, that turns enemy fire into free ammunition.

Valley of Ashes lanterns and pistol ammunition
The Quarry sits inside the Valley of Ashes, which carries five lanterns across the region. Knowing where they fall helps you keep track of safe rest points since the area gives you no map to lean on.

The Other Side
Pistol ammunition lies scattered through the world in stacks of 2, 4, and 8. The Valley of Ashes holds three of these pickups, so expect to lean on what you carry and what enemies drop while clearing the Quarry. For planning your reserves across the campaign, these are the counts per region:
Region
Pistol ammunition pickups
Fallen Village
6
The Outskirts
5
University
4
Valley of Ashes
3
Fortress
3
Caverns
2
Napoleon’s Prison
2
If you are running low, resting at a lantern restocks ammunition, and the Ammo Restock upgrade under Endurance raises how much a pistol refill returns by 2 per rank across four ranks.
How you know the Quarry is cleared
The second zipline sets you down by the mining shacks at the base of the canyon. Once you run off the end of the unpaved road and the walls fall away into open ground leading toward the forest, the Quarry is behind you and Chapter 2 continues from there. Picking up the Marksman’s Bane from the watchtower chest along the way confirms you took the full route rather than skipping the lookout perch.
