Frenzied Flame is a bronze trophy and achievement in Valor Mortis tied to a single, easy-to-miss action in the Fortress. It rewards you for lighting a sword that stands upright in a bonfire, hidden inside a locked cell below the ruins. Only a small fraction of players have triggered it, so most people walk past the room without ever knowing it exists.

Quick answer: Equip the Fire Transmutation, reach the secret cell beneath the Chapel lantern in the Fortress, burn away the tendril barrier, and light the sword standing in the bonfire.

What you need before you start

You cannot attempt this until you can enter the Fortress, which is the tenth region of the game. Getting there means progressing the main story far enough to gain the University key, picking up the ability that protects you from poison, and then opening up the Fortress itself.

  • Access to the Fortress region (Chapter 10).
  • The poison-protection ability gained at the University, since the route passes through a poison gas corridor.
  • The Fire Transmutation equipped, as fire is the only thing that lights the sword and clears the barrier in your way.

The cell is reached most directly from the Chapel lantern. If you have not rekindled that lantern yet, you will do it on the way in from Traverse.

Rekindle the Chapel lantern from Traverse

Skip ahead to the next section if the Chapel lantern is already lit. Otherwise, start at the Traverse lantern and work your way across to it.

From the Traverse lantern, head out through the fortress ruins. Clear or run past the enemies along the path and follow it toward the stone building ahead.

Climb across the stone ledges that run along the fortress wall, then drop down into the inner courtyard.
Pull down the tendril gate to open the shortcut, then rekindle the Chapel lantern. This becomes your checkpoint for the rest of the route.

Route from the Chapel lantern to the bonfire

From the Chapel lantern, the path drops underground and runs through a drainage system before reaching the locked cell. Keep your Fire Transmutation ready for the barrier near the end.

Descend the stairs from the Chapel lantern to the stone cellar. Pass the large barrels in the brick passage, then drop into the shallow water channel below.

Sprint along the channel, then use the ladder attached to the right-hand stone wall to get to the upper level.
Make your way through the green poison gas, steering clear of the exploding spore bulbs. Activate the blue-glowing lever mounted on the right wall.

How to confirm it worked

The moment the sword catches fire, the bonfire flares and the Frenzied Flame trophy and achievement pops on screen. There is no boss, reward item, or follow-up objective tied to the room. Igniting the bonfire is the only requirement, and the unlock notification is your confirmation. It is a nod to the resting points in a certain other series, so the payoff here is purely the trophy itself.

The Valor Mortis display setup screen asks players to adjust Gamma and Brightness, both set to 100%, until bright and dark areas are clearly visible.

Frenzied Flame and Fire Transmutation reference

Frenzied Flame is not a hidden achievement, so it shows in your list from the start. Its low global unlock rate reflects how few players stumble into the cell rather than any difficulty in the act itself.

The Fortress holds six lanterns in total: Main Gate, Traverse, Chapel, Ramparts, Courtyard, and High Tower. The Chapel and Traverse pair are the two you rely on for this run, with Chapel sitting closest to the dungeon stairs that lead down to the bonfire.
