The Musket is the long-range firearm of Valor Mortis, built to drop a single target from a distance. You pick it up in the VALE OF WRATH, the region tied to Chapter V, CRIME, and it waits on a display case a short walk from one of the region’s checkpoints. No boss, no puzzle stands between you and it once you are in the right room.

Quick answer: The Musket rests on a blue display case inside a red-wallpapered house about 15 metres from the Poisoned Camp Lantern in the Vale of Wrath. Walk up to the case and press E.

See every weapon on the Valor Mortis map, and the whole region on the Vale of Wrath map.

Where the Musket is in the Vale of Wrath

After James gives you the Outward Pass Key, unlock the Outward Pass Gate to travel from the Abandoned Church to the Vale of Wrath. Look for the Musket in a house beside the Poisoned Camp Lantern. Canvas tents, wicker fences and piles of crates make up this army camp, with the Lantern positioned among them.

The room is easy to identify: oversized gold damask flowers pattern the red wallpaper, and red velvet sofas sit against the walls. A wooden staircase rises along one side, next to a wall covered by a purple Nephtoglobin growth. In the center, a long display case has carved gilt legs, little lamps at its corners and a vivid blue quilted cushion. The Musket rests on top of the cushion. As you enter, NEW ENTRY ADDED TO THE JOURNAL appears in the top-left corner.

Use the Fallen Village Blunderbuss room as your reference. Here, too, the red damask walls and blue quilted table identify the matching furniture to look for.

Rest at the Poisoned Camp Lantern when you arrive. The prompt reads [E] REST, it is your checkpoint for this part of the Vale of Wrath, and the Musket is only a few steps away.

How to pick up the Musket

Go into the red-wallpapered room beside the Poisoned Camp Lantern, then approach the blue display case at its center.
Face the gun resting on the cushion. Above the case, you’ll see [E] TAKE.

Press E. A short scene plays as William lifts the Musket, turns it over and says, “One clean shot with this beauty… can go a long way.”

You’ve added the Musket to your Arsenal. In the HUD’s bottom-right firearm display, it appears with its one loaded round, shown as 01.

Musket stats and upgrades

The Arsenal describes it as “A precise and deadly long-range Musket built for absolute lethality. Requires special Ammunition.” Its traits read “Precise”, “Long-range.” and “Focused on eliminating single targets.” It fires one round per load with a 2.5-second reload, and it deals 20 Posture damage per shot at every level, more than the Pistol’s 10 or the Blunderbuss’s 3 per pellet.

Base damage climbs with each level:

LevelDamageLevelDamage
21657240
31808255
41959270
521010300

You upgrade the Musket at James’s Iron Bench with Firearm Parts, the same bench used for the Pistol and the Blunderbuss. The part tier rises with the level:

LevelsCost
2–4Standard Firearm Parts x1 / x2 / x3
5–7Superior Firearm Parts x1 / x2 / x3
8–9Exquisite Firearm Parts x1 / x2
10Masterwork Firearm Parts x1

The same parts upgrade the Pistol and the Blunderbuss; compare the numbers in the stats per level for all 9 weapons.

Four upgrades unlock along the way:

  • Level 2, Puncture: “Shots pierce enemies.”
  • Level 5, Nephtoglobin Infusion – Cannon: “Hold [Reload] to infuse your Firearm with an explosive round. The infusion costs Nephtoglobin and consumes Ammunition.” The explosive round deals 140 at weapon level 5 and 190 at level 10.
  • Level 8, pick one. Bayonet: “Attaches a Bayonet to the Musket, increasing its Melee damage.” Scope: “Attaches a scope to the Musket, improving its accuracy.”
  • Level 10, Spacious Barrel: “Increases the Ammunition Capacity.”

Special Cartridges: ammunition for the Musket

The Musket draws from the special ammunition pouch, the same one the Blunderbuss uses, not Pistol Cartridges. James’s Iron Bench sells Special Cartridges for 300 Catalysts from Chapter V, CRIME onward. The listing reads “Use it to refill your Special Ammo pouch with 2 rounds.” and you can carry up to 3.

You will also find Special Cartridges lying around the Vale of Wrath and later regions, and Volunteers sometimes drop them.

Is the Musket worth using

The Musket lands the hardest single hit of the firearms and the most Posture damage per shot, which makes it the tool for opening a fight from distance or chipping the Posture of one strong enemy. The trade-off is real: one round at a time and a slow reload leave it weak up close against a group.

For everyday use the Pistol stays more practical, with its 5 rounds and its ability to break Nephtoglobin Weak Points. Keep the Musket for the long shot and lean on the Pistol when things close in. See every weapon ranked for the full comparison.
