Composers Arkadiusz Reikowski and Oskar Bała

The score is a two-person job. Arkadiusz Reikowski and Oskar Bała share the album, with some tracks written solo and others co-written. Reikowski is one of Poland’s best-known game composers, with credits that include Layers of Fear, Observer, The Medium, Blacktail, Gord, Cronos, and the Silent Hill 2 remake, which drew Game Awards nominations for its audio and music. He currently works as Audio & Music Director at Activision’s Elsewhere Interactive.

Bała is a composer and sound designer who builds adaptive, gameplay-driven music, blending live orchestral instruments with heavy cinematic electronics. His past work includes Ghostrunner 2 and God’s Trigger, which ties neatly into Valor Mortis given the game comes from the Ghostrunner team at One More Level.

“The Noose” and the album’s sound

“The Noose” runs 6:16, making it the album’s longest track and a strong example of the score’s progression. It starts with subdued low ambient sounds, sorrowful brass, and a measured military snare rhythm. Gradually, swelling strings and brass drive it toward a tense marching climax. Heavy war drums, ominous choral chants, and dissonant horns dominate the peak, then the music recedes, leaving a brass motif to fade above a low ambient drone.

That mix carries across the record. The two composers lean on orchestral arrangements but push them into industrial and heavy metal territory, matching the game’s blood-soaked battlefields and decaying villages. Track titles like “Slaughtermill,” “The Eternal Guard,” and “Entity, Voice of the Void” line up with enemies, locations, and story beats you meet in the game.

Valor Mortis itself casts you as William, a soldier of Napoleon’s Grande Armée pulled back from a battlefield grave into a Europe swept by a supernatural plague. It’s a first-person soulslike built around parries, dashes, visceral finishers, and magical “transmutations,” developed by One More Level and published by Lyrical Games. If the soundtrack drew you in, the score is designed to sit alongside that campaign, and it plays just as well on its own.
