Vaultbreakers is an isometric co-op action game where small teams raid a place called the Dragonvault, grab ancient relics before corrupted enemies get to them, and haul the loot back to a home base. A playable demo went live during the Triple-i Initiative Fall Showcase, and the project now has a publishing deal behind it. The reveal trailer runs through the core pieces: expeditions, a cast of five heroes, a buildable hub, and the dragon that waits at the bottom.
Quick answer: The Vaultbreakers demo is free to play on Steam right now. It is developed by BetaDwarf and published by Square Enix, with a full release targeted for 2027.
What Vaultbreakers is
You play as a Vaultbreaker, one of a group sent to recover powerful Artifacts falling from the Dragonvault in the sky. Combat is fast and viewed from above, with spellcasting, melee weapons, and ability cooldowns shown along the bottom of the screen. The pitch is a loop you repeat and improve: head out on an expedition, fight through monsters and bosses, collect relics, then extract everything you survived with back to safety.

The world shifts as you go. Missions can throw ambushes, triggered events, and multi-group fights at you, and the game offers both PvE and PvPvE modes, so other players can be part of the danger. The deeper you push through the vault gates, the harder and riskier each run becomes.
The studio is credited two ways around this launch. The game itself carries BETXOWARP ApS branding, while the official site and social channels run under BetaDwarf. Square Enix is the publisher.

The roster is fixed. You pick from five set heroes rather than building one from scratch, and each has its own model, weapon, and look. The trailer lines all five up together.
| Hero | Weapon |
|---|---|
| Grey-haired warrior | Runic two-handed axe |
| Horned nature caster | Magic, magenta and green outfit |
| Small blue fae creature | Staff |
| Horned archer | Glowing bow |
| Red-bearded warrior | Massive two-handed warhammer |
You can shape how a hero plays on top of that fixed base. The game lets you unlock and equip perks that change a champion’s abilities, loot or craft gear to raise your power, pick up new abilities, and awaken Artifacts that grant passive powers.
Expeditions and extraction
An expedition is a single run into the Dragonvault. You travel through a portal into the vault, fight across different biomes, and face everything from mechanical contraptions to monsters lurking in graveyards. Traversal abilities help you move around the space, and ability cooldowns and charges tick down on the HUD as you fight.

The payoff is the relics. You unlock large vault mechanisms, secure chests full of loot, then step onto an extraction teleport circle to carry it all out. Pull it off and the rewards come home with you. The further in you go, the bigger the risk to what you are trying to keep.
Building the Haven
The Haven is the central hub you return to between runs. It is a settlement you grow over time, evolving and upgrading its buildings with what you bring back. The trailer shows heroes channeling power into the Haven’s core together, and a recent update added Haven Social Hubs where players can gather.

The Dragonvault and Maldrakor
The trailer ends with the party confronting a massive, purple, dragon-like beast as it roars inside a shadowy hall. The game’s central mission is to bring Maldrakor down and return equilibrium to the world. Dragonvault controls the challenge level: each gate deeper inside raises the difficulty of your encounters.
