The M4 is the rifle almost every other gun in WARDOGS gets measured against. It is light, fires fast, reaches out to medium range, and forgives mistakes, all for a price that does not wreck your balance every time you die. If you are weighing whether to spend on it, the short version is that it holds up as one of the strongest all-round buys in the game.
Quick answer: Yes. At $2,800 the M4 delivers assault-rifle damage and velocity at 800 RPM with mild recoil, sits in the top tier for close and mid-range fights, and still leaves $7,200 of a $10,000 loadout for armor, ammo, and gear.
M4 cost and loadout budget
The M4 costs $2,800 per deployment, which is 28% of the standard $10,000 starting balance. Buying it leaves $7,200 for everything else you carry: armor, medical items, a sidearm, attachments, and the 5.56x45mm rounds it needs. That is affordable enough to run every life without draining your account.
New accounts get a break here. Below level 9, the recruit discount halves the tile price to $1,400, so early players field it for even less before the discount expires.
The M4 costs about as much as 187 boxes of the ammo it fires. A cheap weapon on an expensive calibre is not always a cheap kit, so plan the whole loadout, not just the gun.
M4 base stats
These figures describe the weapon before attachments are applied. Shot damage and firing speed form the basis for all the other calculations.
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Damage per hit | 28 |
| Rate of fire | 800 RPM |
| Effective range | 500 m |
| Muzzle velocity | 910 m/s |
| Accuracy | 0.84 mrad |
| Weight | 2.92 kg |
| Calibre | 5.56x45mm |
| Fire modes | Semi / Full Auto |
| Price | $2,800 |
Its damage stays constant from point-blank distance to 500 m, then drops off, reaching a fraction of its maximum at 1,200 m. Fight inside 400 m to make the most of the M4. Weighing 2.92 kg, it is the lightest posted assault rifle in the game; its low weight reduces your total loadout and helps you remain in the faster movement class.
How the M4 performs in combat
The M4 lands firmly in the top tier. It fires as fast as some SMGs but keeps assault-rifle damage and bullet velocity, giving it a reach those SMGs cannot match. Recoil is mild for the fire rate, so it stays controllable in sustained bursts.
Up close, the fast rate of fire clears rooms quickly, and the low weight lets you swing corners without feeling sluggish.

At mid and longer range, a scoped M4 fired in semi-auto taps stays accurate enough to pick targets in windows and behind cover. With good recoil control you can stretch engagements well past its comfort zone.

Its accuracy and velocity let it hit small, fast targets too, including enemies drifting down under parachutes.

On defense, it holds walls and choke points well, letting you fire over fortifications and drop attackers as they push.

M4 vs other WARDOGS assault rifles
| Weapon | Price | Calibre | Fire rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| $0 | 5.56x45mm | 700 RPM | |
| $600 | 5.56x45mm | 750 RPM | |
| $1,600 | 5.45x39mm | 650 RPM | |
| $2,200 | 5.56x45mm | — | |
| $2,800 | 5.56x45mm | 800 RPM |
T-21 is far cheaper and has a solid time to kill, but very high recoil holds it back. The M4 is effectively a straight upgrade in handling and control.
AK74 is a strong, cheap all-rounder with low recoil and high velocity. It is worth using when you unlock it, but the Galil sits just above it for not much more money.
Galil is the top rival. It has a large default magazine, higher velocity, and more damage from its 5.56 rounds, which is why it ranks near the M4. The M4 still edges it overall thanks to its balance of speed, weight, and recoil.
For longer sightlines, the M4 also holds its own against tree-line and valley engagements when scoped.

Best optics for the M4
The M4 supports one of the widest optic ranges in the game, from close-range reflex sights to long-range scopes. For most fights, a 1.5x to 3x optic hits the sweet spot, since the M4 is an engagement rifle rather than a sniper.
| Optic | Price | Zoom | Band |
|---|---|---|---|
| $820 | 1.2x | Short | |
| $650 | 1.5x | Medium | |
| $880 | 4x | Medium | |
| $1,650 | 6x | Long | |
| $1,800 | 2.5-10x | Long |
Reflex and red-dot sights suit aggressive, fast loadouts. A 1.5x or 3x prism gives enough magnification to pick targets at distance while keeping close-range awareness. Higher-power scopes work if you plan to hold long lanes, but they carry an ADS speed penalty that hurts snap shots.
The M4 also takes muzzle brakes for tighter recoil, a suppressor to stay off the minimap, and foregrips that help control spread during sustained fire. The three magazine options are the STANAG 20 for lighter semi-auto play, the STANAG 30 as the balanced default, and the STANAG 60 for sustained fights at the cost of extra weight.

5.56x45mm ammunition
The M4 fires 5.56x45mm, bought separately by the box at $15. Every load type deals the same 28 base damage; the type changes how that damage applies to different targets.
- Standard (FMJ) at $1.50 per round: the reliable default for most fights.
- Armor Piercing: better against armored players, costs more per round.
- Hollow Point: stronger against unarmored targets, weaker against armor.
- Tracer variants: same damage as their base loads, but visible in flight.
The 5.56x45mm stock is shared across several weapons, so ammo you carry works if you swap between guns on the same calibre. Keep at least one load type matched to the opposition you expect.
Unlock requirement and Assault XP
The M4 must be unlocked before you can use it. First reach Assault Level 20, then pay $100,000 once to place it in your vendor tab. Each deployment after that costs the standard $2,800.
WARDOGS has no set classes. Carrying gear associated with a role earns XP on that role’s track, and taking the M4 into the field always adds XP to Assault, regardless of your other gear. It is an efficient pick for advancing Assault, a role that caps at level 50.
Put simply, the M4 pays back what you spend on it. It is cheap enough to run every life, light enough to keep you mobile, controllable enough to win close and mid-range fights, and it steadily builds your Assault rank while you do it. If you want one flexible rifle to lean on, this is the one that makes the most sense.
