Jesse Faden hands the spotlight to her brother Dylan in Control Resonant, and her absence at the start of the game raises an obvious worry. Dylan wakes from a years-long coma to find the Hiss loose in Manhattan and his sister nowhere to be seen, which makes her fate one of the biggest questions running through the story.
Quick answer: Jesse does not die. She survives the finale but ends up in a coma after swapping places with Dylan, and is placed under FBC care at the Oldest House.
Everything below spoils the ending of Control Resonant, including the final confrontation and its aftermath.

Jesse is alive and behind Dylan’s awakening
The setup flips the first game on its head. In 2019’s Control, Jesse tracked down Dylan and pulled him out of the Hiss, and he slipped into a coma. This time it is Dylan who wakes up while his sister has gone missing.
She was never gone, though. Jesse is the one who wakes Dylan, and she has been working on her own plans while he was unconscious. Rather than being a victim in the background, she is an active partner in the events unfolding across Manhattan.

Add to Google Preferences →How Jesse connects with Dylan through the Faults
Dylan reaches Jesse through Faults, distorted pocket dimensions that also hand him new traversal abilities. Inside these spaces the siblings work side by side, and Jesse reminisces about their childhood while carrying guilt over the day the FBC took Dylan and she escaped.

Together they trace the source of the Patterning tearing through the city to the Hedron, the entity twisting streets and buildings out of place. Working through these ritual sequences is also how Dylan gains movement powers such as Shift, which lets him bind his gravity to walls and inverted surfaces.

The Hedron fight and the sacrifice
In the first game, Dylan served as a conduit for the Hiss. Hedron’s resonance strengthens their connection, leading the Hiss to attempt another takeover. Jesse drives it back but disappears in the struggle; later, Dylan realizes she survived, Patterned within Hedron and giving him time.
At the summit of the Oldest House, Dylan destroys the Hedron’s physical manifestation, then discovers the entity has taken root in his mind and intends to make him its vessel. Zoe, his field agent, triggers the MCD kill-switch to halt the transformation, but he rips it off and ends the fight by taking control of the Hiss within him. The Hedron’s destruction succeeds, but it is completely bound to Dylan’s mind, so he dies along with it.
In his final moments, Jesse uses the Slide Projector, the same device the siblings used as children to travel between dimensions. She combines with Dylan the way they did during the Fault rituals, then swaps places with him. The Hedron dies, Dylan lives, and Jesse takes the full weight of what would have killed him.

Where Jesse ends up after the swap
The exchange saves Dylan, but leaves Jesse in a coma—the same condition he was in when the original Control ended. The FBC cares for her at the Oldest House, where she rests in Dylan’s former cell under the supervision of Research Specialist Emily Pope, a close friend of Jesse’s.
The incident report frames her rescue as something the Bureau does not fully understand, and it is unclear whether she acted intentionally. What is clear from the ending is her status: alive, comatose, and not gone the way she once left Dylan behind as a child.

What her survival sets up next
Dylan and Emily Pope are searching for a way to bring Jesse back, and Dylan explicitly vows to wake her no matter what it takes. Manhattan is not clear either, since the Hiss and the Mold are still present even after the Hedron is destroyed, leaving the siblings’ story open.
So if you were worried about losing the original protagonist, you can put that fear aside. Jesse survives Control Resonant intact, just trapped in the same kind of coma her brother once endured, with her fate deliberately left hanging for whatever Remedy does with the pair next.
