The Sea of Sunfire chapter runs from the Duel of Blood through Qianyue, Elder Peng’s two-phase duel, and the Skyward City crash.

Version 2.2, Perilous Eminence, landed on September 16, 2026, and it closes out the Hidden Mountain arc that Where Winds Meet has been building for months. The finale is a long, mostly linear run of cinematics broken up by two scripted boss fights, a collapsing flying city, and an epilogue that quietly sets up the next confrontation.

Quick answer: The finale plays out across the chapters “A Bitter Winter” and “Sea of Sunfire,” and contains two story boss fights — Qianyue at the vault doors and Elder Peng atop Skyward City, each with two phases.

Where the Hidden Mountain finale begins

The finale continues the Bringer of Embers chapter and picks up on Mohist Hill, with the secret of Black Gold tearing the sect apart. You side with Grandmaster Swallow to work out who activated Skyward City, and the chapter ends with Elder Peng making a decision about what Mohist Hill does with its mechanical arts.

The run leans heavily on earlier Hidden Mountain content. Names like Wagtail, Harrier and Stork carry no weight if you have skipped the region’s previous chapters, and there is no recap built into the finale.

Sea of Sunfire cutscene order, beat by beat

The Duel of Blood and the refugee crisis

The opening cinematic has Elder Harrier storming the sect leaders and invoking the Duel of Blood to seize the title of Grandmaster. Harrier draws on Grandmaster Swallow directly, demanding either the title or the Black Gold, until Elder Peng knocks the blade away. Your character walks in mid-argument to raise the refugee problem, and Peng wheels Swallow off to the inner sanctum in her mechanical chair as snow starts falling.

What follows is the quietest stretch of the chapter. Snow settles over the cliffs while refugees huddle around fires outside the sect, and a grain distribution nearly turns into a brawl before the emissary calms the crowd and opens the granaries.

Qianyue at the vault doors

Swallow releases a mechanical bird and slips out into the snow on her own. You catch up with her at the vault doors alongside the Lodestar Swordmaster, where Qianyue appears to block the way. That is the chapter’s first boss fight.

Skyward City lifts off

With Qianyue down, the colossal Skyward City mechanism grinds into motion and begins climbing. Wagtail walks toward the machinery while Harrier begs her to stop, voices her resentment toward Mohist Hill’s ideals, and falls from the structure — Harrier catches her.

Back on the platform, you repair the left and right listening urns using Everlink Form and Celestial Seize to line up the gears. Swallow then broadcasts across the settlement, confirms she is the Grandmaster, and warns that the Golden Crow Nest core is flawed and liable to explode. Disciples offer up their wooden birds to form a bridge, and the objective Flocking to the Heavens has you sprinting across it into the floating city, cutting through Qionggi Blade Raiders and Blaze Raiders on the way to the central platform.

Elder Peng’s betrayal

Elder Peng is waiting on the grand platform and admits to the whole scheme, arguing that Mohism’s tenets justify universal control through Black Gold and dismissing ordinary people as greedy. Then come the blade-wings and the multi-limbed mechanical rig, and the second boss fight starts.

Between the two phases, Swallow reaches the inner engine room, works out the correct order of Black Gold synthesis, and balances yin and yang qi to suppress the Golden Crow core’s flames. The fight resumes with the arena ringed in fire.

The crash and the escape

Skyward City keeps rising, but its path now runs straight between the civilian houses below and the Divinecraft Pavilion, which holds the sect’s oldest Mohist knowledge. Harrier runs into the pavilion to pull ancient scrolls out while disciples evacuate.

Swallow’s answer is to ignite the Black Gold and steer the vessel into the mountain instead. It hits the snowy peak and explodes, the town survives, and the group glides clear on wooden flyers while the townspeople watch from the ground.

Epilogue: The road to Jiangnan

The chapter winds down with a caravan escort along Province Ridge, talk of disciples entering the various kingdom courts, and a sunset ride with Jin Zhongyuan through golden wheat fields. At the riverbank outside the city gates, a figure in a veiled hat turns out to be Uncle Chen, alive, for an emotional reunion.

The final cutscene moves to a dark cave, where a figure in red wipes a bloodied dagger clean on silk, talks about taking faces, and speaks of the Frozen Bone Toxin over a wounded woman lying on the ground. Official materials name the returning foe as Qianye, the mastermind behind the Blissful Retreat tragedy.

Every boss fight in the finale and what defines it

Qianyue

Phase one takes place in the dark on broken hanging wooden platforms. You are dodging scythe swings and answering with sword arts while the footing keeps shifting. Phase two drops the arena into a red dimension between towering pagodas and moves most of the exchange into the air. The kill sequence plays out across snow-covered decks, leaving Qianyue collapsed.

Elder Peng

Phase one opens with tutorial prompts for Collapse and Magnetic Shield before the circular arena fight starts. Peng attacks with wing blades and electrical bursts; triggering Collapse staggers are your main opening. Phase two adds prompts for Dodge Carefully and Desperate Strike, and Peng gets a power-up with airborne dive attacks, lightning strikes and sweeping blade combos.

If phase two wipes you, the restart puts you back at Hero’s Tomb and resumes from the second phase rather than the whole fight.

Finale rewards and how to confirm it is complete

You know the chapter is finished when the summary screen reads Bringer of Embers: Sea of Sunfire (Final). The payout on that screen covers:

  • Echo Jade
  • Hidden Mountain materials
  • Coins
  • Stored EXP
  • Lingering Melody
  • Jisheng Aircraft Decoration

A second confirmation arrives right after the mountain crash: a notification that the Final Direction campaign has unlocked, followed by an objective to speak with Aunt Chunhua, Feng Jisheng and the Master Scholar back at the encampment. If you are not seeing that prompt, the chapter has not closed out yet.

The two new campaigns tied to the finale

Skyward City Ruins puts you on a Wooden Eagle for a high-speed aerial chase through collapsing towers, ending in a confrontation with former Grandmaster Halcyon. It fills in an older piece of Mohist history and her reading of what “benefiting the people” was supposed to mean. The update also opens the Skyward City Ruins area itself, which makes Ascendant Peak considerably easier to explore.

Final Direction is a duel inside a magnetics-driven arena where gravity keeps flipping. You face Elder Peng one more time, and the fight frames the question the whole arc has been circling: whether Mohist Hill stays sealed off on its mountain or takes its mechanical arts down into the world.

Neither campaign is optional flavor if you care about the story. Between them they resolve where the sect’s knowledge ends up, and the cave scene at the end of Sea of Sunfire makes clear the arc is a pivot rather than a clean ending.
