The Bell Toller is the final boss of the Mirkvale Campaign in Where Winds Meet, fought deep inside the Hidden Mountain region of Heaven’s Threshold. It is a decorative bell that comes to life when a yellow bird lands on it, and beating it closes out the Mirkvale questline. It is a low-difficulty fight, rated two stars out of five, so most players can clear it without special preparation.
Quick answer: Reach the Bell Toller by completing the Mirkvale Campaign up to the “Defeat the Bell Toller” objective, then whittle down its health while dodging its rod strikes and rolling attacks. Defeating it clears the fight, unlocks it as a companion boss, and awards the “Serpentine Moves” and “Winging It” achievements.
Where to find the Bell Toller
The Bell Toller lives at the end of the Mirkvale Campaign, a side quest set in the northernmost part of the Hidden Mountain. To start Mirkvale, track its pin west of Heaven’s Threshold and head into the jagged gorge marked on the map. The quest became available after the Cloudstair was finished during the Cloudtop Ascent event.
You cannot walk straight to the boss. Mirkvale is a long questline that runs you through the Hundredfold Forge, mechanism repairs with Xiaoba’s tone combs, several Artificer fights, and a mine cart ride toward “Meow Meow Mountain.” After the cart crashes, you squeeze through a crack in the cavern wall and step into the wide cave where the Bell Toller waits.

The encounter opens with a short cutscene where the yellow bird settles on the bell and triggers its transformation. Once combat begins, the Bell Toller keeps a simple pattern. Its two main threats are swings from its rod and mace and a rolling move where it barrels around the arena. Keep the boss in front of you, dodge sideways as it swings, and punish the gaps between attacks.

Spear attacks work well here because they let you stay at range and slip out of the rod’s reach between combos. There is nothing fancy to interrupt, so steady damage plus clean dodges is enough to bring its health bar down.
Note: The arena changes look partway through, shifting from a grassy field to a bed of yellow flowers as the boss loses health. The Bell Toller’s moveset stays the same throughout, so treat the scenery change as a visual cue rather than a new set of mechanics to learn.

Rewards, achievements, and finishing the quest
When the Bell Toller falls, a defeat cutscene plays and flowers spill from its head as it drops to the ground. Direct loot from the kill includes Jade Fish, Trace Jade, and Medicinal Tablets, along with Echo Jade picked up in the aftermath.

Beating the boss also fires off two achievements, “Serpentine Moves” and “Winging It,” which pop as you collect your rewards. You can confirm they registered by pressing the achievements prompt when the notification appears.

The fight is not quite the end of Mirkvale. After the Bell Toller is down, Xiaoba arrives and collapses. Search the table to the side of the cave for Xiaoba’s pills, “Search for Xiaoba’s pills” being the tracked objective, and hand them over. He then invites you to lie down and watch the sky until night falls, when a firecracker and an umbrella carry you safely out of Mirkvale and end the quest.
Completing the full Mirkvale Campaign pays out a larger reward bundle on top of the boss loot, including the Inner Way Tome – Soaring High, Medicinal Tales, a Mystic Insight Pill, a Meteor Link, a Dual-Purpose Cushion, Oscillating Jade x5, Echo Jade x60, Hidden Mountain Exploration x110, Enlightenment Point x200, and 55,500 each of Character EXP and Coin.
You know the encounter is fully settled once the defeat cutscene plays, the two achievements appear, and the quest advances to the pill search. If the objective still reads “Defeat the Bell Toller,” the boss is not yet down and you need to keep chipping away at its health.
