Alpha demo: what’s playable and when it ends

The alpha demo is free and available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam and the Microsoft Store. It runs until 15:00 UTC on September 30, 2026, after which you can no longer download or play it.

The demo drops you into the Changban stage, an open field where you fight alongside Liu Bei’s army against Cao Cao’s pursuing forces. It includes an in-progress character creation system and online multiplayer for up to three players, giving you an early look at both the combat and the co-op.

Clearing the demo rewards the Fledgling Phoenix Helmet, which carries over into the full game. To claim it, you need to play the final release on the same device where the demo save is stored and use the same account for both. Save progress itself does not transfer to the full game.

The demo requires an internet connection and cannot be played offline. An Xbox Game Pass subscription is not needed for multiplayer sessions, and achievements are not available in the demo.

You can grab the demo from the Xbox alpha demo listing, with matching versions on PlayStation Store and Steam.

What Wings of Ember changes

The story is set in China in 208 AD, after the events of Fallen Dynasty. After Cao Cao’s forces devastate the protagonist’s village, the hero joins Liu Bei’s fight and later allies with Sun Quan in Jiangdong, reuniting with Pang Tong to plan a stand against Cao Cao at the Red Cliffs.

Combat keeps the fast deflection rhythm of the first game and adds a new Insight system. Holding the Insight button spends Spirit to power up skills, letting you counter certain red attacks with aerial moves and knock airborne enemies down. Verticality is a bigger focus this time, with wall jumps, slides, and pole traversal used to reach new areas and collide with foes.

Structure shifts toward dynamic open fields that recreate battles like Changban and the Red Cliffs. You explore fortresses and hidden strongholds, raise morale to survive the demon-infested world, and can recruit enemy officers to weaken opposing forces.
