Where to pick up the Human Priest starter quest, how to find Priestess Anetta, and what the turn-in gives you.

Hallowed Letter is the short Human Priest class quest that introduces you to your first trainer inside Northshire Abbey. It takes about a minute to finish, but the turn-in NPC sits in a side room that is very easy to run straight past.

Quick answer: Right-click the Hallowed Letter in your bags to read it, then enter the Library Wing of Northshire Abbey and take the narrow doorway on the right to reach Priestess Anetta.

Hallowed Letter quest requirements and start location

The quest is Alliance-only and restricted to Human Priests. Marshal McBride hands it over outside Northshire Abbey once you have cleared the early Northshire tasks, and everything after that happens inside the building.

How to complete Hallowed Letter in Northshire Abbey

Speak to Marshal McBride in front of Northshire Abbey and accept Hallowed Letter. He explains that the sealed letter carries the insignia of Priestess Anetta, the local priest trainer, and asks you to read it before doing anything else.

Open your bags and right-click the Hallowed Letter to read it. The letter is Anetta’s note telling you to find her in the library wing when you are ready to train, and reading it is a required objective, not flavor text.
Run through the front doors of Northshire Abbey and cross the Main Hall. This is the same building where Brother Paxton and the other librarians stand, so you do not need to leave the abbey grounds at any point.

Turn into the Library Wing and move past the central staircase, keeping Brother Paxton <Librarian> and Daniel <Librarian’s Assistant> on your way. The wing is the open room lined with bookshelves.

Use the narrow entrance at the right edge of the Library Wing. It opens into a small study beside it, where Wounded Trainees receive care; on a first run, most players overlook this door.
In that study, speak to Priestess Anetta <Priest Trainer>, identified by the yellow question mark overhead, then turn in the quest.

Rewards and what unlocks after the turn-in

There is no gear or gold reward here. The point of the quest is to put you in front of a trainer and open up the first block of priest spells.

  • 40 experience in the original Classic version, and 45 in Season of Mastery.
  • 130 experience in the later level 3 version of the quest.
  • Reputation with Stormwind, listed at 50 in Classic and +75 in the level 3 version.
  • Access to Anetta’s training list, including Smite, Shadow Word: Pain, Renew, Power Word: Shield, and Flash Heal.
  • A follow-up priest quest from the same trainer.

Anetta closes the conversation by telling you to come back as you gain levels so she can teach you more, which is the game’s way of pointing out that new spells become available at every even level.

How to confirm Hallowed Letter is complete

Advance through Anetta’s conversation to trigger the experience gain above your action bars. At the same time, Hallowed Letter leaves your quest log, the physical letter vanishes from your bags, and the quest tracker at the screen’s right updates.

Version differences between Classic and modern World of Warcraft

Patch 4.0.3a raised the quest from level 1 to level 3 and rewrote McBride’s line so that he references the Blackrock spies instead of the kobold camps. Patch 7.0.3, released on July 19, 2016, removed the quest entirely from the live game, where it is now flagged obsolete and cannot be picked up.

It still runs normally in World of Warcraft Classic and the Classic-line expansions, so if you are levelling a Human Priest through Northshire there, the letter, the side door, and Priestess Anetta are all exactly where they were.
