World of Warcraft: Khelden Bremen Mage Trainer Location in Northshire Valley

New Human mages start in Northshire Valley, the small starting area in Elwynn Forest just east of Stormwind, and the mage trainer there is tucked away where a lot of players walk right past him. Khelden Bremen does not stand in the main entrance hall with the quest givers. He sits one floor up, in a side wing of Northshire Abbey.

Quick answer: Khelden Bremen <Mage Trainer> is on the upper floor of the Library Wing inside Northshire Abbey. Enter the abbey, cross the Main Hall, take the back doorway, and climb the wooden stairs.

The Library Wing is one of three rooms attached to the abbey, alongside the Main Hall and the Hall of Arms, which sits on the opposite side of the building. Khelden shares the wing with the priest trainer, and Wounded Trainees lie around on the floor the same way they do everywhere else in the abbey.

Route from Northshire Valley to the Library Wing

Open your world map and check where you are. Northshire Valley sits east of Stormwind, and Northshire Abbey is the large stone church marked near the centre of the valley. Everything below assumes you are standing on the cobblestone road in front of it.

Turn to face the abbey’s front entrance. The building has a single main doorway at the top of a short flight of steps, and that is the only way into the interior rooms.

Run up the steps and through the main doors into the Main Hall. You will pass Marshal McBride and the usual cluster of starting quest givers on the way in. Keep going straight rather than stopping to talk.

Cross the Main Hall and take the doorway at the back of the room to enter the Library Wing. Brother Paxton <Librarian> stands near this entrance, which is a good sign you are in the correct wing.

Head for the wooden staircase on the left side of the room and run up it. At the top, follow the balcony walkway around the edge of the library until it opens into the upper room.

Click Khelden Bremen in the upper room to open his dialogue window. From there you can pick the Train option to see the spells available to you.

If you end up next to the priest trainer instead

The Library Wing holds two class trainers, and the one on the lower floor is Priestess Anetta <Priest Trainer>, reached by turning right down the corridor instead of taking the stairs. If her training menu is what opened, you stopped a floor too early. Go back to the staircase and take the balcony walkway up.

How to confirm you found the right trainer

The nameplate reads Khelden Bremen <Mage Trainer> and he is a level 5 Humanoid.
Clicking him opens a dialogue window with a training option, not just a quest list.
Choosing Train brings up the list of mage spells you can buy at your current level.
Mage characters auto-accept his quest, Join the Battle!, worth 50 experience and 5 copper.

Khelden only teaches abilities up to level 6, so his training list will stop filling in shortly after you leave the starting area.

Goldshire is the natural next stop once Northshire runs dry, and the Lion’s Pride Inn trainer is a short ride south of the valley. After that, the Wizard’s Sanctum in Stormwind’s Mage Quarter covers the rest of your ability ranks, and the portal trainer sits in the same tower — a useful rule of thumb anywhere in the game, since mage trainers and portal trainers are almost always parked in the same room.
