Where the Vile Fin murlocs spawn in Tirisfal Glades, which ones to kill first, and what the quest pays out.

Murlocs at the Gates is the first quest a new Undead Paladin picks up at the keep in Tirisfal Glades, and it is a straight kill task with a slightly annoying catch: the two murloc types you need do not always sit in the same place, and one of them hits far harder than the other.

Quick answer: Slay 8 Vile Fin Attackers and 8 Vile Fin Seers in Tirisfal Glades, then return to Breton Samuels at the keep to turn the quest in.

Murlocs at the Gates quest requirements and details

The quest is restricted, so it will not show up on every character. It is a Horde-side Undead Paladin quest, it cannot be shared with your party, and it opens the short chain that continues into Touring the Grounds.

Pick it up from Breton Samuels inside the keep. His dialogue explains the setup: the murloc tribe used the building as spawning grounds before the Forsaken moved in, and they have been pushing back ever since.

Where to find Vile Fin Attackers and Vile Fin Seers

Both murloc types live in two separate pockets of Tirisfal Glades, and you can finish the whole quest at either one. Which you pick mostly changes whether you fight on dry land or in the water.

The eastern bluffs along the road

Head east out of the keep and follow the road toward the Whispering Forest area. The hills east of the lake hold the densest mix of Vile Fin Attackers and Vile Fin Seers, and everything there is on solid ground, which makes pulling and escaping much cleaner than fighting in the lake.

Murlocs in the bluffs sit in loose clusters rather than tight packs, so you can usually peel one off at a time from the edge of a group.

The lake camps to the west

The alternative is the murloc camp on the lake shore, marked by thatched huts. Seers tend to stand near the huts on land, while a good share of the Attackers are submerged in the lake and have to be fought underwater. That is slower, and it makes retreating harder if two or three link onto you at once.

A large creature called Blightsculler patrols beneath the lake surface. It is far tougher than the murlocs, so do not dive into deep water while you are already low on health.

How to clear the 8 and 8 kill objectives safely

The kill counters are independent, so there is no order you are forced to follow. There is, however, a clear priority inside each fight.

  • Kill Vile Fin Seers first in any mixed pull — they are casters and do the bulk of the damage.
  • Expect wounded murlocs to flee and drag extra mobs back to you; finish them before they run.
  • Fight along the edges of the camps so a bad pull can be walked out of.
  • Loot as you go — the murlocs drop copper and Vile Fin Scales.

Keep a few free bag slots before you start. Vile Fin Scales drop steadily from the same murlocs, and a full backpack mid-farm means stopping to clear space.

If you do get overwhelmed and die, the graveyard run back is short — the camps sit close to the road that leads up to the keep.

Murlocs at the Gates rewards

You choose one item on turn-in, plus a small amount of coin. The two weapon options are Skullthumper and Driftwood Smasher; depending on your character, the reward list shown at the NPC can also include pieces such as Bone Buckler and Beanstalk.

Turning in and confirming the quest completed

Once both counters read 8/8, the quest log shows the objectives as complete. Run back up the path, through the outer gate and courtyard, and up the stone steps into the main hall where Breton Samuels stands.

Talk to him, pick your reward, and the quest closes out with the experience and Undercity reputation. Touring the Grounds becomes available from him as the next step in the chain, which is the clearest sign the turn-in registered.

If you want to double-check on an alt or after a relog, run this in chat — it prints true when the quest is flagged complete for that character.

/run print(C_QuestLog.IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(91285))

Because the quest cannot be shared, a friend who tags along has to grab their own copy from Breton Samuels. Grouping up still works fine for the kills themselves, and it makes the underwater Attackers near the huts much less punishing.
