Ratchet is the goblin port on the eastern shore of the Northern Barrens, and it houses two of the engineering trainers Horde players rely on while leveling the profession. Both stand together in a single workshop, so once you know which building to enter there is no searching involved.

Quick answer: The trainers are inside the northernmost building in Ratchet, carved into the hillside at roughly 68, 71 in the Northern Barrens. Vazario Linkgrease and Tinkerwiz stand on the purple rug next to the glowing green vats.

Where Ratchet sits in the Barrens

Ratchet is a neutral Steamwheedle Cartel town on Kalimdor, sitting on the central-east coast of the Northern Barrens between Orgrimmar and the sea. A boat connects it to Booty Bay, and it has had a flight master since patch 1.11, so you can reach it by wind rider, by boat, or on foot from The Crossroads.

The engineering workshop is the final structure at the northern edge of town, built up against the cliff. It is the same building that houses the engineering supply vendor, so restocking materials and training happen in one stop.

How to reach the engineering workshop in Ratchet

Enter Ratchet from the road that runs in from The Crossroads, or land at the flight master if you flew in. Open your world map to confirm you are on the eastern coast of the Northern Barrens.

Climb the wooden stairs to the northernmost building, then go through its circular doorway. Indoors, two trainers are positioned before green-lit chemical canisters. Check that their nameplates show Vazario Linkgrease <Master Goblin Engineer> and Tinkerwiz <Journeyman Engineer>.

Tinkerwiz handles general engineering training, while Vazario Linkgrease is the goblin specialization trainer. Liv Rizzlefix, the Workshop Assistant, and Gagsprocket, the engineering supply vendor, are in the same area, so you can train and buy reagents in the one room.

Starting Goblin Engineering from Ratchet

Vazario Linkgrease starts the goblin specialization questline. It becomes available when you reach level 30 and 200 Engineering skill. Next, leave Ratchet and go to Nixx Sprocketspring in Gadgetzan, Tanaris, to take the Pledge of Secrecy. After that, bring 20 Big Iron Bombs, plus 20 Solid Dynamite, and 5 Explosive Sheep to an engineering trainer in any capital city.

Choosing goblin engineering is permanent and locks you out of the gnomish discipline, so confirm the choice before finishing Nixx Sprocketspring’s task.

Players who want both specializations over time work through the goblin questline first, and the community has mapped out that order in detail.

Once the delivery quest turns in, you become an official goblin engineer with access to the full set of goblin schematics, confirmed by the Goblin Engineer skill appearing in your spellbook.
