Every step to finish the optional Arcantina quest, grab the Corrupted Lantern, and work around the transform and lantern bugs.

Still Behind Enemy Portals is an optional Arcantina quest in World of Warcraft that sends you back to a version of the Broken Shore to steal an artifact of great evil. It’s short, it plays as a lighthearted heist, and it hands out a decorative reward. The catch is that several of its steps have been prone to breaking, so getting through it cleanly depends on knowing the exact triggers.

Quick answer: Talk to Marius Felbane in the Arcantina, take the green portal to the Broken Shore, speak with Tehd Shoemaker and pick “Transform?”, fill the “Stuff robbed” bar by opening the Dark Chests, grab the optional Corrupted Lantern upstairs, then use your Personal Key to the Arcantina to return and turn in. If the lantern never reaches your bags, loot the spare copy on the ground next to the Broken Shore portal at coordinates 48, 55.

Quest requirements and where to start

Still Behind Enemy Portals is a level 83 quest that scales up to 90, open to both factions. It starts and ends with Marius Felbane inside the Arcantina, which you reach using the Key to the Arcantina. This is one of the rotating weekly Arcantina offerings rather than a permanent quest, so it only appears when it cycles in.

Finishing it counts toward the Old Soldiers achievement, which asks you to complete quests from all of the Arcantina visitors. The name deliberately echoes the Legion World Quest Behind Enemy Portals from the Broken Shore, and this version reuses that zone.

Walkthrough: complete Still Behind Enemy Portals

Enter the Arcantina with your Key to the Arcantina and speak to Marius Felbane to accept the quest. He explains that Tehd Shoemaker has repurposed a Legion portal to reach a fel-tainted artifact left behind after the war with the Burning Legion.

Jump through the glowing green portal to travel to the Broken Shore. Walk into the Hijacked Portal and stand in it. This should send you to the Derelict Legion Vessel, where you arrive in disguise.
Look to your left on arrival and speak with Tehd Shoemaker, then choose the “Transform?” option. Tehd turns you into a Wyrmtongue so you can move among the demons without being attacked on sight. If you already show up transformed, you can skip ahead.

Head into the main room and open the glittering treasure chests, the Dark Chests of Forbidden Evils, to fill the “Stuff robbed” meter to 100 percent. There are ten chests to work through, and it usually takes only a couple of minutes.
Take the ramp to the second floor to reach the remaining chests. Watch for enemies such as the Auditor Eyes and the Dread Auditor, which can reveal your disguise. There’s a short, simple jumping puzzle up here to grab some of the treasure.

Grab the optional Corrupted Lantern from the glittering chest in the north part of the upper area. After you finish the jumping puzzle and land back on the ground, the chest holding it should be right there.
With the meter full and the lantern in hand, use your Personal Key to the Arcantina from your Toy Box to return. Turn the quest in to Marius Felbane, then place the Corrupted Lantern on its spot inside the Arcantina.

Note: Because you rely on the Arcantina toy to leave the vessel, expect a cooldown afterward before you can use the Key again.

If the transform step won’t trigger

The disguise is the first place this quest tends to stall. If talking to Tehd doesn’t turn you into a Wyrmtongue, try these fallbacks in order.

  • Move to the right, behind the pile of boxes next to the NPC, and stand close to them. Getting near should transform you automatically.
  • Turn your camera until you can see two windows. Go to the right window, set your movement to walk only (the default walk toggle on your keyboard), and slowly edge your character toward the lip of the window until the disguise applies.

Be careful once you’re disguised. Walking back into the portal by accident can strip the transformation, and in some cases you won’t be able to re-apply it even after abandoning and restarting the quest.

Corrupted Lantern bug and the workaround

The most common failure hits the optional lantern. Players loot the Corrupted Lantern from the chest, but the item never actually lands in their bags, and it vanishes once the quest is turned in. That blocks the placement in the Arcantina and, by extension, the associated achievement progress.

A working duplicate of the lantern has been placed on the ground next to the Hijacked Portal on the Broken Shore, at coordinates 48, 55. This spare copy is lootable and stays with you after you leave, so it fixes the empty-bag problem.

Travel back to the Broken Shore portal where you started the vessel section. If the portal is active, do not walk into it, since the animation can hide the item and re-entering may reset your state.
Look on the floor by the base of the portal frame and loot the spare Corrupted Lantern. It’s easier to spot on a character who has already completed the quest, because the portal effect won’t be in the way.
Return to the Arcantina and place the lantern on its marked spot. The location shows up as a quest marker on your map even when you don’t yet hold the item.

Tip: If the quest is still active and the lantern currently drops into your bags without disappearing, hold off on turning in until the lantern is safely placed, so a bugged hand-in can’t delete it first.

Rewards and how to confirm completion

You know the quest worked when Marius Felbane accepts the turn-in, the Wyrmtongue disguise is gone, and the Corrupted Lantern sits in its place inside the Arcantina. Turning it in also plays a short exchange between Tehd and Marius.
