Where the guild master stands inside Valanaar Central Hall, and what the NPC sells once you get there.

Guild masters are among the least conspicuous NPCs in World of Warcraft, which is why players often run past one several times before spotting the title under the name. In Valanaar, the NPC is tucked inside the settlement’s main structure rather than standing out in the open, so the fastest way to reach them is to know the building before you start circling the streets.

Quick answer: Head into Valanaar Central Hall and continue to the back balcony area. The guild master stands there, and sells the Guild Charter used to found a guild.

Valanaar guild master location: Central Hall, back balcony

Open your map and locate Valanaar on the continent. Pinning the settlement before you set off saves a lap around the outskirts, since the guild master is indoors and will not show up as a roaming NPC on the minimap until you are close.

Travel to Valanaar and walk into Valanaar Central Hall, the main building in the settlement. Ignore the side rooms on the way in; the NPC you want is not near the entrance.

Keep going straight through the hall until you reach the balcony area at the back. That is where the guild master stands. Talk to them to open the guild services window.

If you are sweeping the room quickly, look for the <Guild Master> title beneath the NPC’s name rather than the model itself.

What a guild master NPC actually does

Guild masters are service NPCs, not quest givers. They exist for two jobs, and both cost gold.

  • Sell the Guild Charter, the item a prospective guild leader needs in order to form a guild.
  • Handle the Guild Tabard, including designing the emblem and colours and buying the finished tabard.

A guild master is distinct from a guild leader. The leader is the player who runs the guild; the guild master is the NPC who charges for the paperwork.

Guild master locations in the major cities

Each major city has exactly one guild master, so if you cannot reach Valanaar, any of the NPCs below provides the same services.

Droha in Shattrath City and Andrew Matthews in Dalaran are neutral, so both Alliance and Horde characters can use them. The rest are faction-locked to the city they stand in.

How to confirm you found the right NPC

Interacting with the correct NPC opens a dialogue window offering to sell you a Guild Charter and to design or purchase a Guild Tabard. If the window only shows vendor goods, flight paths, or trainer options, you are talking to a different NPC and should keep moving toward the back of the hall.

Once the charter is in your bags, the guild master’s job is done. Everything after that, including signatures and naming, happens through the charter item itself, and you only need to return to a guild master again when you want to design the tabard.
