Quick answer: Hunter, Warlock and Druid are the best classes for leveling and solo play. Mage, Rogue and Warrior lead group damage, Priest and Paladin top healing, and Warrior is the best tank.
WoW Forever class tier list
These tiers are our picks: S identifies the best fit for a role, A a strong option, and B a viable pick with noticeable drawbacks. Every class among the nine can reach level 60, and all remain playable choices. Reaching level 40 grants Dual Specialization. To reset talents, visit a class trainer in one of the major cities; no class choice rules out a role in WoW Forever.

S tier: Hunter, Warlock, Druid
Hunter can send a pet to absorb attacks in solo or small-group play while attacking from farther away than any other class. Pets gain power from your gear, traps can be used during combat, and Marksmanship’s Lone Wolf increases damage by 20% when you go without a pet.
Warlock uses demon pets that protect it and scale from its stats. Affliction keeps its own health up with drains, and Demonology keeps enemies locked onto the pet.
Druid can use Frenzied Regeneration to restore up to 100% of its maximum health if it has enough Rage. Forms still allow the use of potions, most consumables, doors and objects. At level 12, Revive can bring allies back outside combat, while Nature’s Grasp is available by default at level 10.
A tier: Warrior, Paladin, Shaman
Warrior learns Victory Rush at level 20; killing an enemy with it restores 10% of maximum health. Tactical Mastery is included by default at level 14. The class has few ways to recover after suffering too much damage.
Paladin has Holy Strike from level 6 and Seal of Fury at level 10, which adds Holy damage to each swing plus an absorb worth half of it. Lay on Hands has a 20-minute cooldown and Pursuit of Justice adds up to 15% movement speed, but there is no interrupt and no slow.
Shaman is among the sturdiest classes thanks to Mail and a Shield. Improved Ghost Wolf works indoors and becomes instant, and weapon imbues last 60 minutes, though crowd control is thin.
B tier: Mage, Rogue, Priest
Mage struggles to withstand melee attacks. Cone of Cold and Improved Blizzard apply a 40% slow, making it harder to kite enemies or farm with AoE.
Rogue benefits from Sap no longer breaking Stealth, shorter Sprint and Evasion cooldowns through Endurance, and more poison charges. It is still melee only with no self-heals.
Priest wears cloth, has few escapes and leans on allies for tanking or control. Shadow Word: Death at level 32 and Shadowform, which makes Shadow spells 50% cheaper, make Shadow the smoother way to level.
Best DPS classes for dungeons and raids
S tier: Warrior, Mage, Rogue
Warrior can sustain damage against multiple melee targets better than any other melee class, and offers distinctive buffs and debuffs. Raging Blows lets a dual-wield Whirlwind strike with both weapons, and Spearing Strike is a new addition to its kit.
Mage has ranged area damage that is stronger and more varied than any other class, plus food, water, buffs and Polymorph for the group. Frostfire Bolt at level 40, Arcane Blast, Heating Up and Ice Lance round it out.
Rogue can reach the greatest potential for single-target melee damage and uses Stealth and Sap to control enemies. Expose Armor now has the effect of five Sunder Armor applications, while Mutilate and Venom expand the Rogue’s toolkit.
A tier: Warlock, Hunter
Warlock can match any spellcaster for damage. Curse of the Elements affects every kind of magic damage, while Bane of Havoc transfers 15% of damage inflicted on other targets to the cursed one. Incinerate is positioned at the bottom of the Destruction tree.
Hunter outranges every other class. At 31 points in Marksmanship, it unlocks Sniper Shot, and its pets include abilities such as the Wolf’s Furious Howl. It lacks a Stun or Interrupt, and foes within 8 yards occupy its dead zone.
B tier: Druid, Paladin, Shaman, Priest
Druid brings Moonkin Form and a Leader of the Pack crit buff that covers all spells and attacks, with Berserk as the 31-point Feral talent.
Paladin can deal competitive damage in Retribution, while Sacred Arbiter maintains all three Judgements and provides strong utility in raids.
Shaman earns its spot through totems, with Windfury Totem and Flametongue Totem buffing the party. Lava Burst and Maelstrom Weapon add damage for Elemental and Enhancement.
Priest can deal strong damage over time in Shadow, but Shadow Weaving now affects only the Priest, and Shadow offers less utility than a Warlock.
Best healers
Paladin (S) is the strongest single-target healer, built around Flash of Light, with Holy Shock as the 21-point Holy talent and Light’s Vigil. Healing a whole party takes more planning.
Priest (S) is the most flexible healer, combining healing over time, direct healing and absorb shields. Penance, Binding Heal and Prayer of Mending add further options.
Shaman (A) heals with chain heals and totems for the whole group, plus Riptide as the 31-point Restoration talent and Water Shield.
Druid (B) is a powerful healer, though its healing-over-time spells take more planning and its toolkit is narrower than a Priest’s. Wild Growth is the 31-point Restoration talent, and Swiftmend no longer consumes healing-over-time effects.
Best tanks
Warrior (S) masters mitigation. Thunder Clap works in Defensive Stance, Sunder Armor threat scales with Attack Power, and Vanguard lets Charge work in Defensive Stance too.
Druid (A) is a fully capable tank. Thick Hide lets it use Defense items, Lacerate at level 42 builds high threat, and Primal Bite adds to the kit.
Paladin (A) is a highly effective tank. The Seal of Fury Judgement taunts at 10 yards, Consecration is baseline at level 20 and hits the first four enemies, and Templar’s Bulwark absorbs 100% of max health for 8 seconds.
Shaman (B) can use Enhancement to fill a tanking role temporarily in a small group.
Best PvP classes
PvP placements weigh each class’s control and escape tools, since Blizzard has said little about PvP balance.
Mage (S) still has Frost control no other class matches, backed by Polymorph.
Rogue (S) pairs Stealth with a Sap that no longer breaks it, then bursts with Mutilate and Venom. Distract does warn players that a Rogue is near.
Warlock (A) slows targets by 30% with Curse of Exhaustion, lets Conflagrate Daze through Aftermath, and fights alongside its demon pets.
Hunter (B) has the longest range and the Surefooted talent, but lacks a Stun and an Interrupt and has an 8-yard dead zone.
Druid (B) can use Entangling Roots inside buildings, but lacks a snare, Silence and Interrupt.
Warrior (B) shortens Stuns with Iron Will and dismounts targets with Spearing Strike, but has few ways to recover from damage.
Paladin (B) can use Voice of Truth to gain immunity to Silence and Interrupt for 6 seconds, but has no interrupt or slow of its own.
Shaman (B) is durable, but Elemental Mastery was taken out to prevent Elemental from becoming too strong in PvP, and its crowd control options are limited.
Priest (B) shortens Stun, Fear and Silence with Silent Resolve, but is very vulnerable without allies.
