Reading the Ley Lines is an early quest in World of Warcraft Forever that sends you out of Thendal Village to interact with a glowing arcane crack in the ground. It takes about two minutes end to end, but a lot of players stall on it because the required ability is not sitting on the action bar where you would expect it.
Quick answer: Run to the Thendal Standing Stones, stand on the purple Ley Line between the stone pillars, and cast Read Ley Line, then return to the quest giver in Thendal Village.

The quest giver sits in the High Order tent area of Thendal Village, near the vendors. The NPC has appeared as Falorne Fallwind and as Ralanna Featherfall depending on the character you are playing, so look for the High Order title above the name rather than memorising one NPC.
Thendal Grove Ley Line location
The objective is not inside the village itself. It sits in the Thendal Standing Stones, a small area of stone pillars reached by following the rocky trail that runs out of the village toward Thendal Grove. The whole trip is a short run on foot, with no mobs that need killing along the way.
Once you are between the pillars, look down. The Ley Line is a glowing crack in the ground that reads as purple or blue depending on lighting, and it gets an interactive highlight and a “Ley Line” label when your cursor passes over it. It is near the tents and pillars, not on the higher rocks around them.
The direction out of the village is easier to trust from the map marker than from memory, since the trail bends. Open the world map, click the Reading the Ley Lines entry in the quest log, and follow the pin.

How to confirm the objective completed
When the cast finishes, an Objective Complete banner appears on screen reading “Use your Read Ley Line ability near the Thendal Grove Ley Line: 1/1”. Your character also picks up the Energized buff, which is the second visible confirmation that the cast registered.
If you want to double check before running back, open the world map. The objective shows as completed and the marker switches to the return path toward Thendal Village.
Turning in Reading the Ley Lines
Head back down the same trail through the canyon and into Thendal Village, then talk to the High Order NPC who handed out the quest and click Complete Quest. The payout is 740 XP along with a reputation gain, and the quest closes out of your log.
There is nothing to pick up, carry, or hand over, so the only thing that can slow you down is the run itself. If the ability ever fails to fire, reposition so you are standing on the glow and let the cast finish without moving.
