Carvanha is one of the first Water-type Pokémon you can befriend in Bubbly Basin, the underwater town added in Part 1 of the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass. It arrives through a specific home called the Seaweed and Netting habitat, and it becomes useful right away because its Cut ability lets you slice watermelons that Corsola cannot handle alone.

Quick answer: Build the Seaweed and Netting habitat using four Netting and two Lush Seaweed near the garden. Once the habitat is complete, keep playing and Carvanha will move in on its own.

What you need before Carvanha appears

Carvanha is tied to the Build the Beautiful Building request, an Important Request you take on while developing Bubbly Basin. Before it will show up, you need Corsola already living in the area and a watermelon crop growing. Corsola eats the fruit but cannot cut the rind, so it asks you to bring in a Pokémon with the Cut ability. That Pokémon is Carvanha.

The habitat that lures Carvanha has a fixed recipe. You cannot substitute pieces, so gather everything below first.

RequirementDetails
Habitat nameSeaweed and Netting
Netting neededFour pieces
Lush Seaweed neededTwo plants
Netting recipe1 Vine Rope + 1 Twine per piece
Prerequisite PokémonCorsola (in Bubbly Basin)

Set up Corsola and grow the watermelons

Make sure Corsola is living in Bubbly Basin. Its home is the Basin Tall Grass and Coral habitat, which you build by pulling up four pieces of Seabed Tall Grass around a piece of coral using your Leafage ability.
Head to the garden to the east of the entrance gate. Corsola will call you over and ask for help growing crops, which produces watermelon. If you need Mudkip’s bubbles to grow the crop, build the Basin Tall Grass habitat from four clumps of Seabed Tall Grass to bring Mudkip in first.
Talk to Corsola again after the watermelons are ready. It will explain that it cannot cut the fruit and ask you to find a Pokémon that can. This is the point where Carvanha becomes your next goal.

Get the Netting recipe

You will not have the Netting recipe when you first arrive, and the habitat needs four pieces of it. The recipe is nearby and easy to grab.

Face the building behind the garden. To the right of that home you will see two Lush Seaweed plants with three pieces of netting already placed behind them.

Open the Poké Ball sitting on the box to the right of the Lush Seaweed. It contains the Netting Recipe.
Go to a crafting table and make Netting. Each piece costs one Vine Rope and one Twine, so craft the four pieces you need for the habitat.

Complete the Seaweed and Netting habitat

With four Netting crafted and the two Lush Seaweed already in place, the habitat is nearly finished. There is one open spot left to fill.

Place your Netting into the empty space by the garden. As soon as the last piece drops in, the Seaweed and Netting habitat is marked complete.
Carry on with other Bubbly Basin projects. Carvanha does not appear the instant the habitat is done, so give it a little time while you handle other tasks.
When Carvanha shows up, talk to it and show it a watermelon, then ask it to cut the fruit into Watermelon Slices. Collect the slices once they are ready and hand them to Corsola to continue the request.

How to confirm it worked

You know the habitat is set up correctly when Carvanha moves into the Seaweed and Netting home near the garden. Once it appears, you can talk to it, use its Cut ability on the watermelon, and finish Corsola’s request. From there Carvanha becomes a regular resident whose Cut ability helps with other jobs as you keep building up Bubbly Basin.

Note: If Carvanha has not appeared, check that all four Netting pieces are placed and both Lush Seaweed plants are present. A missing piece leaves the habitat incomplete, and an incomplete habitat will not attract the Pokémon.

Bubbly Basin is the first paid part of the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass, and reaching Carvanha requires that you already own the DLC, have learned the Dive move from the free 2.0 update, and completed the “Raise the environment level!” request in Bleak Beach. Once those boxes are ticked and the habitat is built, Carvanha is a short craft and a little patience away.
