What looks like a straight bounty hunt turns into a story about a burned CIA agent, and the ending hinges on who really caused her downfall.

Who La Llorona really is
La Llorona takes her name from the Latin American folk tale of a grieving, vengeful spirit, and she leads a fanatical cult, Los Penitentes, that has spread across four regions pulled from the base game: Caimanes, Oroco, Espiritu Santo, and Villa Verde. Her followers wear masks, obey her without question, and hunt down anyone linked to the corruption in Bolivia. By the halfway point of the campaign, they have grown strong enough to push the Unidad military police out of the area entirely.
Behind the mask is Ines Cortes, a former CIA agent who once worked under Emily Price. She married a cartel member, Marco Cortes, and was seemingly executed by her own husband alongside her twin daughters. She survived, but the loss of her children turned her bitter and vengeful. That is why she now wages open war on the cartel, striking so effectively that even Unidad cannot track her down.
The Ghosts move through each region collecting audio recordings and documents left in the wake of her killings, slowly piecing together her identity, her motive, and her location. The tone stays deliberately grim throughout, with dense swamp and jungle that cuts your usual support options and keeps you on the back foot.
Emily Price’s betrayal
It becomes clear early that CIA handler Emily Price is personally connected to La Llorona, which explains why she reached out to Nomad’s team in the first place. The full truth lands in the finale. A recording played by Ines Cortes confirms that Price sold out her own agent, and that betrayal is what ultimately led to Marco Cortes executing their children.
In other words, the Ghosts were brought in to clean up a mess Price created, burying the Agency’s role in the whole affair. The confrontation happens at the Alta Gracia Mines in Villa Verde, where you finally come face to face with La Llorona in her weeping widow mask, with Price standing right beside you.
The Price of Freedom: capture instead of kill
The last mission flips the objective. As often happens in Wildlands, the orders change at the worst moment. This is no longer a kill mission but a snatch, and Price insists on coming along to the mine to see it through personally.
What happens after the extraction
Once La Llorona is safely extracted back at the Espiritu Santo Alpha base, the aftermath is laid out plainly. Officially, she is announced as dead. In reality, she is alive and held behind bars, which lets the Agency keep the whole story buried.
