Pokemon Pokopia: How to Make Every Bubbly Basin Smoothie

Unlock the Blender, harvest Watermelon and Sea Grapes, and mix every drink that powers up Surf.

Unlock the Blender, harvest Watermelon and Sea Grapes, and mix every drink that powers up Surf.

Smoothies are a new prepared food added with the Bubbly Basin expansion in Pokemon Pokopia, and every one of them powers up Ditto’s Surf ability so you can ride the Lapras form underwater instead of swimming. To make any of them you first need the Blender, plus a steady supply of Watermelon Slices and a few other ingredients gathered around the underwater town.

Quick answer: Progress the Bubbly Basin story until Mudkip approaches you with a request, craft the Blender for two Pokemetal, then combine Watermelon Slices with berries, drinks, or Sea Grapes at the Blender to make a Smoothie.

Unlock the Blender to start making Smoothies

The Blender is not a recipe you stumble across in the world. It becomes available only after you have pushed far enough through the Bubbly Basin main story, at which point Mudkip seeks you out with a request about mixing drinks. This tends to happen after you finish the larger building project tied to Popplio, the Ocean Temple, though it may unlock a little sooner for you.

Mudkip hands over the Blender recipe once you reach the right point in the story.
Advance the Bubbly Basin questline until Mudkip appears with a dialogue bubble. Talking to Mudkip about Smoothies unlocks the Blender recipe at your workbench.
Craft the Blender for the cost of two Pokemetal, then place it on a table or flat surface so you can use it.
Make any Smoothie and bring it back to Mudkip to close out the request. After that you can mix Smoothies whenever you want.

You will know it worked when Mudkip accepts the drink and the request completes, leaving the Blender free to use for the rest of your playthrough.

What Smoothies do for Surf

Like other dishes in Pokopia, a Smoothie pushes an ability past its usual meter for a temporary boost. In this case the boost applies to Surf, the Lapras ability, and lets you use Surf underwater. That matters because plain diving through Bubbly Basin is slow, and powered-up Surf moves you across the seafloor far faster.

Gather Watermelon Slices and Sea Grapes

Watermelon Slices are the base ingredient for every Smoothie, the same way beans anchor the burger recipes. You also need Sea Grapes for a couple of dishes. Both come from Bubbly Basin, but they take very different amounts of work to obtain.

Sea Grapes are the easy one. They grow as small green clusters on low plants scattered across Bubbly Basin, and several sit right in the starting area past the gate, so you can pick them up almost immediately.

Watermelon takes a task tied to Corsola. After you build Corsola’s habitat, they eventually ask you to grow Watermelon in a small garden in the main area. Once Corsola raises a Watermelon for you, you need a Pokemon with the Chop ability to slice it before it can go into recipes. Bring the sliced Watermelon back to Corsola to finish the quest, and from then on Corsola keeps growing Watermelon in that same spot for you to harvest and chop as needed.

If you do not already have a Chop user, Corsola gives you the habitat clue for Carvanha. Any of the following Pokemon can also chop Watermelon for you:

  • Sharpedo
  • Totodile
  • Croconaw
  • Feraligatr
  • Buizel
  • Golisopod
  • Chewtle
  • Drednaw

Tip: Several Smoothies call for drinks that come from Vending Machines, so place a couple of machines in Bubbly Basin. That way you can vend more than one beverage each day.

Every Smoothie recipe

All of these are made at the Blender and all of them power up Surf. Pokemon will sometimes request a specific flavor for themselves, so it helps to keep ingredients for a range of drinks on hand.

Other new Bubbly Basin dishes

Watermelon and Sea Grapes also open up new variants of existing cooked foods using the tools you already have. For most of these you need a Pokemon with the Burn Specialty along with you while you cook, which in Bubbly Basin means Frillish or Jellicent.

Explosive Hamburger Steak has one strict requirement. You must bring a Pokemon with the Explode Specialty, or the recipe simply produces normal Hamburger Steak instead. Electrode and Voltorb are the only Pokemon with that ability.

With the Blender built and a self-refreshing Watermelon patch tended by Corsola, you can keep a full spread of flavored drinks in rotation and use powered-up Surf to cover Bubbly Basin far quicker than diving alone.
