The M4A1 is a full-auto assault rifle in Ghost Recon: Wildlands that sits in a weapon case at the Armadillo Hunting Lodge in Flor de Oro. It reads in-game as a rifle “used by U.S. spec ops,” and it works as a near-straight upgrade to the starting P416. You can claim it in the opening hours as long as you have a way to reach the region.
Quick answer: Fly to the Armadillo Hunting Lodge in Flor de Oro, find the weapon case beside the blue house with the small shed, sneak past the Unidad guards, and open the case. You do not have to kill anyone to collect it.
M4A1 location in Flor de Oro
Flor de Oro sits in the southeast corner of the map and carries a five-skull threat rating, so patrols and Unidad forces here are heavier than in the starting zones. The M4A1 case is at the Armadillo Hunting Lodge, tucked next to a blue house with a small shed built against it. The exact crate rests near that structure, and the surrounding area is watched by Unidad soldiers who are noticeably tougher than the regular sicarios you meet early on.

The moment you finish the mission to rescue Amaru, you have everything you need to make the run. A helicopter parked outside the cartel compound gives you the fastest path to Flor de Oro despite the high threat level.
Ground approach by motorcycle
Because the lodge sits in a forest, a vehicle overland works well if you would rather skip the SAM sites. Start at the eastern edge of Libertad, below the lumberjack village of Rocha, and follow the main road south. Slip onto the unpaved path beside the road to dodge Unidad patrols, and ride until you reach the camp near the lodge.
From there, take the marked path toward the Armadillo Hunting Lodge. You will mostly pass civilians on the forest trail, so there is no need to open fire. Use the tree line behind the lodge as a scouting position before you move in.
Grab the M4A1 without a firefight
Send up your drone to tag the Unidad soldiers spread around the lodge. Watch for a sniper covering the forest, and pick a scouting spot that keeps you out of his line of sight. Once the enemies are marked, you have two ways to play it.
- Sneak straight to the case, loot it, and leave. This is quick but risky if a guard spots you.
- Thin out the Unidad one at a time with a suppressed weapon, starting with the sniper, then collect the M4A1 in peace.
You do not need to clear the camp to grab the rifle. The case opens the same way either method plays out, and once the weapon registers, the M4A1 appears in your loadout menu as an available assault rifle. That confirmation is your sign the run worked. Night approaches make the stealth route easier, since most guards cluster on the western side of the house while the northern wall backs onto a hill and rocks.

M4A1 vs P416 stats
The M4A1 improves on the P416 across the board. It hits harder per bullet, fires faster, and holds tighter accuracy. In pure stealth play the gap barely shows, since a headshot drops an unarmored sicario in one hit regardless. The difference matters against armored or tougher enemies, where the higher damage per second clears them faster than the P416 can.

It is a dependable workhorse rather than a hard-hitter. Higher-caliber rifles such as the R4, Mk17, and AK-47 deal more raw damage per shot, which lets them reach lower bullet-to-kill breakpoints. Against the Mk17 in particular, the M4A1 trails on damage, penetration, precision, and range, but it counters with more maneuverability and a much higher rate of fire.
Attachments and magazines
The M4A1 accepts nearly every assault rifle accessory on its platform, though the tall front iron sight can partly block some scopes. Its rate of fire is beaten only by the G2 FAMAS found in Inca Camina, and the recoil stays predictable for how fast it shoots. Semi-auto and three-round burst modes are available if you want to slow the ammo drain, and the standard 20-round magazine can be upgraded.
| Magazine | Capacity | Region |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | 20 rounds | Default |
| Extended | 30 rounds | Mojocoyo |
| Large | 50 rounds | Libertad |
Picking up the larger magazines is worth the detour once you have the rifle, since the M4A1 burns through ammo quickly at full auto. With a suppressor fitted, it becomes one of the quieter assault rifles in the game, which is why stealth players lean on it for silent takedowns while still keeping the option to go loud when a lodge full of Unidad forces your hand.
