The “harvest an energetic bean” duty in the Pop City Star Path never spells out which crop it means, and that vague wording trips up a lot of players. The energetic bean is Coffee Beans, an ingredient tied to a specific friendship quest rather than anything you can buy or dig up at random.
Quick answer: Harvest 50 Coffee Beans from your three Coffee Bean bushes. You unlock the bushes by completing Stitch’s level four quest, Very Sleepy Stitch, and each bush regrows three beans every 40 minutes.
Why the energetic bean is Coffee Beans
The hint points to Coffee Beans because they are used to brew Coffee, the drink known for giving energy. That is the whole logic behind calling them “energetic.” Other beans in the game, like Beans and Cocoa Beans, do not count toward this duty, so do not waste time collecting them.
Coffee Beans grow on three Coffee Bean bushes. You cannot access these bushes until you have added Stitch to your valley and finished his level four friendship quest, Very Sleepy Stitch. In that quest, Stitch is sluggish because he has run out of coffee, and helping him rewards you with the bushes.

The three bushes first appear in the Glade of Trust region after Very Sleepy Stitch is complete. They are not locked to that biome, though. You can pick them up and drop them anywhere in the main Dreamlight Valley area to keep them close together for faster runs.
If you have moved the bushes and lost track of them, open the Collection menu and select Coffee Beans. The biome listed underneath the ingredient updates to match wherever you last placed the bushes, so it always points to their current location.
Harvest 50 Coffee Beans for the Pop City duty
The Pop City Star Path duty asks for 50 Coffee Beans total. Each bush drops three beans per harvest, so all three together give you nine beans at once. After that, the bushes need 40 minutes to regrow before you can collect again, which is why this task stretches across a couple of hours of return trips.
| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Ingredient needed | Coffee Beans |
| Amount required | 50 |
| Beans per bush | 3 |
| Beans per full sweep (3 bushes) | 9 |
| Respawn time | 40 minutes |
| Reward | 15 Tokens |

To cut down the grind, bring a foraging Companion or any villager with the best friend glow active, plus two foraging critter Companions. They will occasionally turn up extra Coffee Beans when you harvest. Those bonus beans do not add to the 50-bean count for the duty, but they are worth keeping to sell, cook with, or gift.
Note: The bonus drop is random, so some harvest cycles will hand you a run of extra beans while others give nothing beyond the standard three per bush. Keep circling back every 40 minutes and the total will fill in.
How you know the duty is done
The duty tracker shows your progress as a running tally, such as 41/50, and it ticks up only when you harvest from the bushes themselves. Once it reads 50/50, the task completes and pays out 15 Tokens for the Pop City Star Path.
Fifteen Tokens is a modest payout, so it pays to keep working through other Pop City duties alongside this one to build up enough Tokens for the event rewards. Picture This: Neon CD Demo Player, hanging out with a glitchy villager, tracking down a demolition expert, and Take Photo: Neon Koi Lantern are all good candidates to knock out while your Coffee Bean bushes regrow.
