Genshin Impact: How to Unlock the White Birch Snowgrave Area in North Snezhnaya

Clear the two prerequisite questlines, follow the Eye of Graeae north, and light the Statue of the Seven to reveal the Pale Crown Palace.

Clear the two prerequisite questlines, follow the Eye of Graeae north, and light the Statue of the Seven to reveal the Pale Crown Palace.

White Birch Snowgrave is the northernmost zone of Snezhnaya in Genshin Impact 7.0, and it holds two major locations, the Pilgrimage to the Sacred Gorge route and the Pale Crown Palace. You cannot walk into it freely. The blizzard and sheer cold in that part of the map kill your party on contact, so the only way in is by following the Eye of Graeae through a specific questline.

Quick answer: Finish the Hesperides of Love and Hate and In the Dwelling of Life questlines, then start On One Side a Palace, On the Other a Tomb. Its first quest, To Gaze Upon the Dreaming Pale Crown, escorts you into White Birch Snowgrave and lets you light its Statue of the Seven.

Prerequisites before you can reach White Birch Snowgrave

Access is gated behind restoring the Eye of Graeae fragments. That work is split across two questlines that must both be complete before the path north opens.

RequirementWhat it doesApproximate time
Hesperides of Love and Hate questlineFirst set of Eye of Graeae fragment steps20–30 minutes if you skip full House of Hesperides exploration
In the Dwelling of Life questlineSecond set of fragment stepsAround an hour
On One Side a Palace, On the Other a TombBegins automatically after the above and escorts you into the regionFollow to completion

If you stay focused, skip conversations, and do not get pulled into side exploration, expect roughly two hours of play to reach the point where White Birch Snowgrave opens. There is no shortcut around this. Even if you managed to slip into the area early, you still cannot repair the train to the Pale Crown Palace without the Eye of Graeae, so the questline remains the only route.

Start the On One Side a Palace, On the Other a Tomb questline

The moment you finish In the Dwelling of Life, the next questline begins on its own. Its opening quest is To Gaze Upon the Dreaming Pale Crown, and it points you toward the train at Central Station.

Open your quest menu and set To Gaze Upon the Dreaming Pale Crown as your active quest. The tracked objective asks you to talk to the Eye of Graeae in Central Station, Snezhnaya.

Follow the Eye of Graeae into the region

From here the quest walks you north into White Birch Snowgrave. The Eye of Graeae keeps you warm against the cold, so stay with it and keep following the objective markers.

Move alongside the Eye of Graeae into the White Birch Snowgrave region. As you explore, a Teleport Waypoint unlocks, so activate it when you pass by to make return trips easier.

Keep pushing through the icy cavern while the objective reads Find a path into the mountains. Clear any monsters in the main cave area, then follow the tunnel deeper toward the Statue of the Seven.

Note: Reading the Notice Board near the cave entrance reveals that someone sabotaged the rail line to the Pale Crown Palace, which is why the train needs repairs later in the questline.

Light the White Birch Snowgrave Statue of the Seven

Reaching the Statue of the Seven is the moment the region truly opens. When you arrive near it, Paimon and the Traveler trigger a cutscene tied to the quest.

Approach the Statue of the Seven and let the cutscene and conversations play out. Once they finish, interact with the statue to activate it.

You will know it worked when the statue lights up the surrounding area and clears the fog from the White Birch Snowgrave map, revealing nearby Teleport Waypoints. From there, keep following the quest to fix the train and gain entry to the Pale Crown Palace.

Why you cannot skip the quest

The blizzard and freezing cold in northern Snezhnaya immediately down your whole party if you try to enter on foot without the Eye of Graeae keeping you warm. That is the first hard wall. The second is the train itself, which stays broken until the questline hands you the tools to repair it.

Once the Statue of the Seven is lit, White Birch Snowgrave behaves like any other Snezhnaya zone. You can hand in Cryoculus to raise the statue’s level for rewards such as Shrine of Depths Keys, Primogems, and Acquaint Fate, and you can start hunting the treasure chests, Time Trial challenges, and puzzles scattered across the region on your way to the Pale Crown Palace.
