Cash in Build Your Backrooms comes from one place above all others: your monsters catching Visitors as they walk your maze. The trick to earning fast is not building a bigger maze, but forcing every Visitor past your strongest monster in your highest-multiplier room, then rebirthing to raise your income multiplier again and again.
Quick answer: Build a single narrow, zigzag path with no branches, place your best monster right at the Visitor spawn inside your highest-multiplier plot (Red Pool or Entity Nest late game), fill the rest with cheap Yellow Crossroads to hit rebirth building counts, and rebirth the moment you meet the requirements to gain a permanent income multiplier.

How money is earned in Build Your Backrooms
Every time one of your monsters catches a Visitor (an NPC walking through the maze), both the capture and the plot it happens on decide your payout. The single biggest factor is the multiplier of the building plot where the catch lands, not the monster’s base cash value. A weak monster in a top-tier room can out-earn a strong monster placed in a plain corridor.
Payouts scale hard as you progress. Early captures pay roughly $300 to $900. Once you funnel Visitors into endgame plots like the Red Pool or Entity Nest with a top monster, single catches can range from $35,000 to over $1 million.
Monsters keep catching Visitors while you are offline, so your maze earns whether you are playing or not. A good layout and roster raise that offline rate, which is why layout decisions matter more than raw playtime. You can open the experience directly on the Build Your Backrooms game page.

The layout’s only job is to keep each Visitor inside your monster’s attack range for as long as possible and to force them past your best room. A straight path lets Visitors clear the maze too quickly and spreads catches across low-value plots.

Skip decorative rooms such as the Alarm Corridor and Electrical Room when your goal is income, since cosmetic pieces do not raise multipliers or monster efficiency. Spend on rooms that increase the payout of the plot they sit on instead.
Best monster and room pairings by phase
Place your single strongest monster in your highest-multiplier room, positioned near the Visitor spawn so the catch happens immediately at maximum value. Upgrading a monster you already own is usually cheaper than constantly buying new ones, and monster stats scale with rebirths. When you can afford a genuine tier jump, swap up rather than stacking weak units.
| Phase | Monster | Room pairing | Est. per catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Early game | Smiler | Yellow T-Junction, Yellow Corridors | $300–$500 |
| Mid game | Crawler | Electrical Room, Ventilation Room, Shallow Pool | $1,800–$5,000 |
| Mid to late | Siren Lamp / Hotel Keeper | Old Lobby, Snack Room, Neon Corridor, Arcade Room | $30,000–$100,000 |
| Late game | Red Watcher | Red Pool, Fake Exit, Entity Nest | $1,000,000+ |
The most common mistake is spreading powerful monsters across the whole maze. Concentrate your best unit at the top of the funnel and let the rest of the path exist mainly to route Visitors and satisfy rebirth counts.

Rebirth for permanent income multipliers
Rebirthing resets your base but grants a permanent income multiplier and unlocks stronger rooms and monsters. It is the main progression driver, so rebirth as soon as you meet the requirements rather than sitting on a full maze. Each rebirth raises the requirements for the next one.
Every rebirth asks for a number of plots cleared, a number of buildings placed, and a cash total. Buy large quantities of the cheapest building (Yellow Crossroads) to satisfy the building requirement for a fraction of the cost, keeping your money free for plot expansions and stronger monsters. Rebirth 1, for example, needs 24 buildings, 12 plots, and $10,000, and rewards a +0.5 income multiplier plus the Stone utility and the Hound monster.
| Rebirth | Building unlocks | Monster unlocks |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Old Storage Room, Pipe Corridor, Electrical Room, Service Turn, Ventilation Room, Alarm Corridor | Hound, Crawler |
| 2 | Tiled Corridor, Shallow Pool, Pool Turn, Steam Room, Drainage Crossroad | Siren Lamp, Water Dweller |
| 3 | Hotel Corridor, Guest Room, Hotel Service Hall, Old Lobby | Hotel Keeper |
| 4 | Snack Room, Neon Corridor, Arcade Turn, Mirror Hall | Mimic |
| 5 | Dark Corridor, Fake Exit, Entity Nest | Glitch Entity |
| 6 | Red Pool | Red Watcher |
Note: cash requirements climb steeply at the top end, reaching $9 million or more around Rebirth 5 and Rebirth 6, so save toward those totals while your offline income runs.

Explore other mazes for early cash
Before your own maze is developed, entering another player’s maze pays both you and the maze owner when a monster catches you. This reward can be collected once every 30 seconds, so repeatedly hopping into other mazes is one of the fastest early income streams.
To survive longer while farming this reward, hug the walls. Monsters often struggle with pathfinding near edges, which keeps you alive between payouts.
Raise your monster limit
Your monster capacity grows as you place more buildings and clear more plots. If you keep hitting the slot cap, keep expanding the maze and rebirthing, since both actions raise the limit while also feeding your rebirth requirements. This lets you increase your economy and your progression at the same time.

Optional boosts worth knowing
New players can claim a free monster, scaled to their current rebirth level, by joining the developer’s Roblox group and liking the game. It is a quick, no-cost head start.
If you plan to play long-term and are willing to spend Robux, the Double Cash Pass doubles the reward from high-tier captures. Its value grows sharply once you reach rooms like the Red Pool and Dark Corridor, though it is not needed to progress as a free player.
Put together, the money loop is short and repeatable: expand the plot, build one funneling zigzag, place your best monster in your top room at the spawn, top up cheap buildings for rebirth counts, then rebirth for another permanent multiplier. Keep that cycle tight and your per-catch payouts climb from a few hundred dollars into the millions.
