Deep in the Valley is a Story quest in Weeping Creek Valley during Chapter 3 of Phantom Blade Zero. It starts by sending you up the Steel Tower for a missing key. The marker is hard to read because the key sits well above the highest bell, and one wrong jump drops you back down the tower.

Quick answer: The lost key is on the Steel Tower’s top disc, above the Valley Sha-Chi Tower Summit bell. It is the Sha-Chi Tower Base Camp Gate Key.

How to start and track Deep in the Valley

The quest’s first objective in the Quests tab reads “Search the top of the Steel Tower for the lost key”. To follow it, open the menu and go to the QUESTS tab. Click the quest row and press Space to open its detail, then press Space again to Track it. The footer switches to Untrack when tracking is on.

The Quests menu has the Story quest Deep in the Valley selected, with the objective to search the top of the Steel Tower for the lost key, shown on the Weeping Creek Valley map.

Once tracking is active, use Mind’s Eye (V) to reveal the marker and your distance from it. At the Valley Sha-Chi Tower Base bell, its direction is straight up the tower.

How to reach the lost key on the Steel Tower

Valley Sha-Chi Tower Base and Valley Sha-Chi Tower 1st Floor are lower down, and the Valley Sha-Chi Tower Summit bell is at the top. The key lies about 25 metres above the summit bell and to its east.

Make your way to the Valley Sha-Chi Tower Summit bell and rest there. Its menu lists Traverse, Upgrade Equipment, Train Abilities, Save and Leave. Two Powderkeg bomb throwers are on the summit, 10 to 40 metres from the bell.
Use Mind’s Eye at the summit. The quest marker reads “48” metres and hangs above and behind the roof of the summit pavilion.

Pass through the summit pavilion, enclosed by red ropes with a large iron pipe running through it. Beside the bell, find a wooden column bearing white crossed X scratches. At those marks, press W+Space to climb; the ascent lifts you about 7.5 metres.

On the roof, take the large horizontal iron pipe with wooden planks laid over it. The pipe leads toward the top disc of the Steel Tower; on its side, a plank walkway ascends onto the disc.

Avoid leaping from the roof edge in the marker’s direction; you’ll fall about 15 metres back down.

On the top disc, look for an orange light beam. Press E on it to pick up the key.

The Sha-Chi Tower Base Camp Gate Key

The pickup is a Story Item called SHA-CHI TOWER BASE CAMP GATE KEY. Its item card reads:

A crudely pieced-together key. The original had snapped, and its teeth were hastily fastened onto a short metal shaft. Opens the camp gate leading to the base of the Sha-Chi Tower.

You know the pickup worked when Mind’s Eye at the disc shows “No further clues. Keep exploring to find more.” The quest also moves on to its next objective, “Open the outer gate at the base of the tower”.

The Watchful Shadow Warden at the summit

At the summit platform’s edge near the bell stands a black-cloaked figure called Watchful Shadow Warden. Press E to speak with him. He won’t attack here, and the conversation has no dialogue choices. Speaking with him again repeats only part of the earlier exchange.

He says the Eleven built the structure long ago as a Transcension Tower. Though most of it has collapsed, steam continues to rise, and he believes the Primal Stone remains somewhere inside. He says Soul reminds him of Master Soul, who betrayed the Order. His colleagues, he warns, have instructions to return with Soul’s head.

Where to open the outer gate at the base of the tower

The objective’s name points to the Tower Base hall, but its marker is elsewhere; inside the hall, there’s no prompt for a gate. On the Weeping Creek Valley map, the purple diamond for the objective lies immediately beside the Creek Valley Plains Entrance bell, far to the south-west of the Valley Sha-Chi Tower Base.
