House of The Locust: How to Escape the Nest (Full Walkthrough)

Collect the wire cutter, key, and keycard, then unlock the green EXIT door to complete the escape.

Collect the wire cutter, key, and keycard, then unlock the green EXIT door to complete the escape.

Getting out of the Locust’s nest comes down to three items and one door. In House of The Locust, a pre-alpha horror experience by NULLWORKS STUDIOS, you spawn trapped inside a maze of wallpapered hallways and have to find a wire cutter, a key, and a keycard before you can leave. The catch is that one of those items sits on the roaming monster itself, and touching him means an instant death.

Quick answer: Grab the wire cutter by placing the red, yellow, and blue cubes on their matching floor pads, pull the key from a random cabinet, take the keycard from the Locust (sneak behind him or grab it through a wall gap), then use all three at the green EXIT door to escape.

The three items you need to escape

Every run ends the same way. You cannot open the exit until all three items are in your inventory, so treat the escape as a checklist rather than a race.

ItemWhere it isHow you get it
WireCutterDrops from the ceiling in the colored-pad roomMatch the red, yellow, and blue cubes to their pads
KeyHidden inside one of the wooden cabinetsSearch cabinets until you find it (location is random)
KeycardCarried by the Locust monsterSneak behind him or reach it through a wall opening

Note: This is a pre-alpha build, so cube positions, cabinet contents, and the monster’s patrol can shift between updates. The item order above is fixed, but do not memorize exact rooms as permanent.

Get the wire cutter with the colored cubes

The wire cutter hangs from the ceiling in the room with three colored floor pads (red, blue, and yellow). To bring it down, you need to place a matching cube on each pad.

Find each large cube. They are scattered through the halls and side rooms, including areas you reach by crawling through low wall openings. Push one cube at a time toward the pad room.

Line up each cube with its matching color. Set the red cube on the red pad, the blue cube on the blue pad, and the yellow cube on the yellow pad. If a cube gets stuck against a wall or doorway, use the jiggle option to free it.
Once all three cubes sit on the correct pads, a hatch opens in the ceiling, and a rope drops down. Interact with it to add the WireCutter to your inventory. As a shortcut, you can also stack or use a single cube as a step and jump up to reach the cutter directly.

Find the key inside a random cabinet

The key is tucked inside one of the many wooden cabinets, and its spot changes each run. There is no fixed location, so you simply search cabinets until it appears.

Walk up to a cabinet and use the Search prompt. Empty cabinets return nothing, and you can Cancel to move on quickly. Keep checking through the side rooms and crawlspaces until the Key drops. Expect to open several before you find it.

Take the keycard from the Locust

The Locust keeps the keycard on him at all times, so the last item is the dangerous one. He is a tall, slender creature with a pale, red-lit face, and he patrols the halls with heavy footsteps and breathing you can hear before you see him. Contact triggers an instant-kill jumpscare.

You have two safe ways to get the card. Walk slowly behind him and grab it while he is facing away, or reach the Keycard through a small opening in the wall without stepping into his path. If he catches and kills you, the card can drop to the floor with a [E] Pick Up prompt, so you can respawn, return, and collect it while staying clear of him.

Tip: Keep a low profile. Break line of sight using corners and dividers, and always plan your retreat before you close the distance. Leave the area the moment the keycard is in hand.

Unlock the green EXIT door

With all three items collected, head to the large grey door marked with the green EXIT sign. The door opens in two interactions.

Select the WireCutter from your inventory and use it on the door’s wiring panel when it shows WireCutter Needed [E] Interact.
Select the Key and use it when the door shows Key Needed [E] Interact. The door swings open to reveal a bright corridor. Walk through the light to finish the run.

You know it worked when the door opens, you pass into the bright exit, and you land back in the main lobby. Completing the escape also awards the “Escaped” badge.

Why your escape fails

Most failed runs come down to a few avoidable mistakes.

  • Touching the Locust ends the run instantly, so never rush the keycard.
  • Trying to move every cube at once leaves them stuck. Deliver one cube cleanly, then go back for the next.
  • Reaching the exit without all three items does nothing. The door needs the wire cutter and key interactions, and you must have secured the keycard as well.
  • Wandering with the keycard invites a chase. Remember the EXIT location before you approach the monster.

If you are playing with friends, split the jobs. One player can scout and carry cubes while another searches cabinets, then regroup at the door before the final push. The escape flow stays the same whether you go solo or as a group, and the whole run can be finished in just a few minutes once you know the order.
