Ever Beneath the Waves: How to Bring the Wooden Cabin to Shore in Genshin Impact

Where to trigger the hidden Snezhnaya quest, how to clear the brash ice, and how Grappling Guns drag the cabin to land.

Ever Beneath the Waves is a hidden World Quest in Snezhnaya, and the part that trips people up is the final stretch: dragging a floating wooden cabin all the way to the shore. There is no combat trick to it. The whole thing runs on Prime Ice Grappling Guns, and once you understand that a Grappling Gun can be built directly on the water’s surface, the quest solves itself.

Quick answer: Build a Grappling Gun on the glowing marker to hook the cabin, then keep placing new Grappling Guns on the water ahead of it (refunding or removing the previous one to pull the cabin forward) until it reaches the shore. Each hook must show a line indicator connecting to the cabin, or it will not pull.

Where to trigger Ever Beneath the Waves

The quest sits in the Volkodlak Tundra sub-region of Snezhnaya, near the town of Sretomorozsk. From the Sretomorozsk teleport waypoint, head east across the frozen water until you spot a shipwreck. The area is flanked by two teleport points, so either the northeast or northwest one drops you close. There is no prerequisite quest, so you can start it the moment you reach the spot.

As you approach, a Voice Beneath the Ice calls out for help. It is easy to assume the voice is coming from the shipwreck itself, but the wreck is a red herring. The real target is a block of ice with a large metal pipe sticking out of it, sitting in a patch of breakable brash ice near explosive barrels. Get close to the pipe to lock in the dialogue and begin the quest.

The Voice Beneath the Ice asks you to clear the surrounding ice.

Clear the brash ice to reveal the cabin

The trapped person, later named Chulkaturin, asks you to rid the water of the brash ice so the cabin can float up. You need to break enough ice around the giant block to fill the objective counter.

Detonate the explosive barrels embedded in the snow and ice near the block. They clear large chunks quickly, but stay out of the blast radius so the AoE does not kill your character.
Break the remaining ice with heavy weapon attacks or Pyro. Pyro is the reliable option here. Charged shots from a Pyro archer such as Amber or Yoimiya work, and skill-based Pyro from Bennett or Diluc melts patches just as well.
Once enough ice is gone, a short cutscene plays. The ice block flips over, revealing the wooden cabin that was hanging upside down beneath it. That is your cue to switch to the pulling phase.

Bring the wooden cabin to shore with Grappling Guns

This is the step that stumps players. The cabin moves only when a Grappling Gun hooks onto it and reels it in. The key detail: you can build these Grappling Guns straight onto the water surface using Prime Ice, not just on solid ground. Open the construct menu (press T on PC) and choose the Grappling Gun to place it.

Face the glowing objective marker to line up each Grappling Gun placement.
Place a Grappling Gun at the first glowing marker the game highlights near the cabin. This is the anchor that starts pulling the cabin toward you.

Confirm the Grappling Gun placement in the Construct Details menu.
Follow the quest marker and build the next Grappling Gun on the water, ahead of the first one and closer to the shipwreck. Check that a line indicator appears between the hook and the cabin. No line means the gun is out of range, so reposition it.

Refund or remove the Grappling Gun behind the cabin. Doing so forces the cabin to be dragged toward the newer gun in front of it. This “leapfrog” of building ahead and removing behind is the core loop that walks the cabin across the water.

Repeat the process, placing a fresh Grappling Gun on the water surface near the final designated spot, then removing the previous one to pull the cabin the rest of the way. When it lands at the shore, the quest wraps with a lengthy conversation.

The pulling can feel clunky through narrow gaps. If the cabin snags on a tight spot, place an extra Grappling Gun and adjust the angle so the hook line reaches cleanly. Standing on top of the cabin to build the next gun also helps when it drifts just out of range.

If the cabin gets stuck

The cabin can wedge into a weird position where no gun angle seems to move it. When that happens, log out and back in. Relogging resets the cabin’s position, letting you pick up the pulling loop from a clean state.

How to confirm the quest is complete and its rewards

Once the cabin reaches the shore, Chulkaturin thanks you without ever showing themselves, and the quest closes out. A Precious Chest spawns nearby as the thank-you, so grab it before you leave. Completing the quest also delivers the fixed rewards below.

RewardAmount
Adventure EXP250
Primogem30
Mora22,500
Hero’s Wit2
Mystic Enhancement Ore3

Finishing here also opens the rest of Chulkaturin’s story. This quest is the starting point for the questline that continues with The Sunken Ship Sailed Past, Ringing No Bells, and later In the Tranquility of Cycles, so it is worth clearing if you want to follow the wandering cabin’s full arc across Snezhnaya.
