Mortal Shell 2: How to Get the Axe and Dagger, Your First New Weapon

Grab the Chapel Key near Mushroom Village, clear the Shrine of Trials puzzles, and beat the Knight to claim the fast dual weapon.

Grab the Chapel Key near Mushroom Village, clear the Shrine of Trials puzzles, and beat the Knight to claim the fast dual weapon.

After the prologue keeps a heavy starting weapon strapped to you the whole way through, the Axe and Dagger is the quickest change of pace you can pick up early in Mortal Shell 2. It is a fast, light dual weapon, and it sits behind a locked door near Mushroom Village that needs a specific key and a short dungeon run to open.

Quick answer: Grab the Chapel Key at the statue near Mushroom Village, use it on the locked door left of the Mushroom Village Beacon to enter the Shrine of Trials, solve the two stone block puzzles, then defeat the Knight and interact with the slab to claim the Axe and Dagger.

Where the Axe and Dagger is and what you need first

The weapon rests on a slab inside the Shrine of Trials, a dungeon reached from the Mushroom Village Beacon. You cannot walk straight in. The Shrine door is locked, and the only way through is the Chapel Key, which hangs from a rope at the base of a hidden statue nearby.

Get the Chapel Key near Mushroom Village

Start at the Mushroom Village Beacon and head right. Follow the path until you spot the villagers dancing on your right side.

Go down the steps and deal with the villagers, then cross the nearby bridge. More villagers wait on the far side, so clear them out before you keep looking around.
With the area quiet, find the empty doorframe in the clearing. Walk around to the side with the steps and pass through the doorframe. A statue appears once you do this.

At the base of the statue, look for a rope with an item hanging from it. Interact with the item to pick up the Chapel Key.

Enter the Shrine of Trials

Return to the Mushroom Village Beacon, but this time head left. You will run into a group of Grisha Hunters in this area.
Look past the cage in this area to spot a locked door. Use the Chapel Key on it to open the way into the Shrine of Trials.

Continue downward and take out the cultist enemies. In the same room you will see a statue and what looks like a dead end. Face the wall opposite the statue, then turn back toward the statue, and the wall vanishes so you can move forward.

Solve the two stone block puzzles

The first puzzle room has a single stone block. Hit the block twice to slide it onto the pressure plate, which opens the door to the next room.

The next room holds two stone blocks. Start with the left block and push it left, then straight, then right.

Move to the right block and hit it once to push it forward. Go back to the first block and hit it to move it left. That fills the second pressure plate and opens the final door.

Beat the Knight and claim the Axe and Dagger

A Knight guards the weapon in the last room. If you already have the Tiel Shell, use its Stealth ability to close in undetected and open with a Shadow Strike for a heavy first hit. Without it, you can fight the Knight head-on.

Once the Knight is down, walk to the slab at the end of the room and interact with it to take the Axe and Dagger. The weapon lands in your inventory and can be equipped right away.

How you know it worked: The Axe and Dagger shows up in your weapon list and is ready to equip. From there it becomes your first new weapon after the prologue, trading the slow starting swings for a much faster attack pace.
