TBOD^2: How to Get Bits and Essence for Cash Boosts

The exact ways to earn Bits from the Merchant and Essence from rebirthing at the Obelisk, plus the boosts each one gives.

Bits and Essence are the two permanent cash multipliers in TBOD^2 (Tycoon But One Dropper: SQUARED). Both stack on top of your normal income, so gathering them is the fastest way to make a single dropper pay out far more than it does at the start. You earn Bits by buying cards from the Merchant, and you earn Essence by rebirthing at the Obelisk.

Quick answer: Each Bit gives a permanent 10% cash boost and comes from spending cash on Merchant cards. Each Essence gives a permanent 0.4% cash boost and comes from rebirthing at the Obelisk once you meet the cash threshold. You can start on the official Roblox game page.

How Bits and Essence boost your cash

Both currencies are passive multipliers. Once you own them, they keep working without any extra input, and their effects add together with weather multipliers and game passes. Bits carry the heavier weight per unit, while Essence builds up slowly across rebirths.

CurrencyBoost per unitHow you get it
Bit10% cashBuy cards from the Merchant, or purchase directly with Robux
Essence0.4% cashRebirth at the Obelisk after meeting the cash threshold

As an example, owning 10 Bits equals a 100% cash boost, which doubles your output. Essence is smaller per unit but has no realistic cap on how much you can accumulate over many rebirths.

Get Bits from the Merchant

The Merchant is the main source of Bits. It appears on every even night and during a Blood Moon, showing up at one of six dirt-patch spots on the map. When it arrives, it sells cards for cash, and buying those cards awards you Bits.

Wait for an even night or a Blood Moon. On those nights the Merchant is guaranteed to spawn somewhere on the map.
Search the six dirt-patch locations, which include the beach, the lighthouse, the Obelisk, and the statue. Move between them quickly since the Merchant sits at just one spot per spawn.

Buy the Merchant’s cards with your cash. Each purchase converts into Bits, adding a permanent 10% cash boost per Bit. A Blood Moon Merchant offers 6 cards, so those nights are the best time to stock up.

Tip: The Merchant Locator game pass points you straight to the spawn, which saves the time spent checking each dirt patch on a normal even night.

Weather events that change your night

Weather runs on random rolls each night and directly affects income and Merchant behavior. Fog is the one you actively want, since it applies a cash multiplier. A Blood Moon is rarer but guarantees a Merchant, while an Eclipse is currently just visual.

Get Essence by rebirthing at the Obelisk

Essence only comes from rebirthing, and rebirthing happens at the Obelisk. When you reach the required cash amount, you can reset your progress in exchange for Essence, and every unit of Essence adds a permanent 0.4% cash boost that survives future rebirths.

Grow your cash until you meet the Obelisk’s rebirth threshold. Rebirthing early with little cash returns little Essence, so build up first.
Travel to the Obelisk and trigger the rebirth. This resets your tycoon progress and awards Essence based on the threshold you cleared.
Rebuild your dropper line with the added 0.4% per Essence working in your favor, then repeat the loop to stack more over time.

Note: The Higher Essence Cap game pass raises how much Essence you can hold, which matters once you rebirth often.

Move faster on dirt paths

Walking on the dirt paths increases your movement speed. Since the Merchant only spawns on dirt patches, sticking to these routes helps you reach it before the night ends and cuts the time you waste crossing the map.

Grab the free badge from Billy

There is a free badge tied to the beach. Head to the beach and touch the skeleton character named Billy. Making contact with him awards the badge with no cash cost, so it is worth a quick detour on any trip to the beach spawn.

Shop options and Robux prices

If you would rather buy Bits outright or add multipliers, the in-game shop sells both game passes and Bit bundles for Robux. Bit purchases work the same as Merchant Bits, adding 10% cash each, so 10 Bits from the shop equals a 100% boost.

Putting it together for faster cash

The most efficient loop is straightforward. Prioritize dropper upgrades so each ore is worth more, collect Bits from the Merchant on even nights and Blood Moons, and rebirth at the Obelisk once your cash clears the threshold to bank Essence. Since the single dropper is the core of the tycoon, every Bit and every Essence multiplies that one output instead of adding more machines.

Keep the cycle running and the multipliers compound. Foggy nights add their 1.20x on top of your Bit and Essence boosts, so a well-timed Merchant run during Fog stretches your cash the furthest.
