Picking the right five towers is the difference between clearing a Fallen run and watching the last enemy stroll into your base. Tower Defense Simulator now carries dozens of unlockable and evolved towers, and their value shifts hard depending on whether you are grinding solo, coordinating a Fallen team, or pushing Hardcore. Below is where each tower lands right now, plus the placements worth arguing about.
Quick answer: Build around Farm for economy, Commander and DJ Booth for stacked buffs, and Accelerator, Engineer, or Golden Minigunner as your damage core. Those five carry any mode through the late game.

Full tower tier list (SS to D)

Accelerator earns its spot on raw burst. Its plasma shots build up before firing, then dump the highest single-target damage in the game, which makes it the cleanest boss-killer available. Engineer takes the opposite route: it is cheap to drop, then scales through its sentry army into extremely high combined damage, so it stays useful from wave one to the finish.
Golden Minigunner is the value pick, delivering strong sustained damage with no placement cap and the best damage-per-coin ratio among the golden perks. Gatling Gun and Turret push even higher raw output, but their steep upgrade costs and level gates make them mid-to-late investments rather than early answers.
The support core matters just as much. Farm is the tower that pays for everything else, so it goes down first almost every match. Commander adds a passive firerate buff plus a Call to Arms burst, and DJ Booth stacks range and upgrade-discount buffs on top. Pairing Commander with DJ Booth multiplies your whole team’s damage, which is why both sit in the top tier despite dealing little damage themselves.

Towers that change tier by game mode
Several towers swing a full tier depending on the mode you queue. Freezer is the clearest example: it is filler in solo play, but close to mandatory in Fallen, where slowing fast enemies buys your damage towers time to fire. Support and buff towers tend to drop in solo, where there is no team to amplify.
| Tower | Overall | Mode shift |
|---|---|---|
| Freezer | C (general) | A in Fallen for speed control |
| Firework Technician | A | S in Hardcore with coordinated burst |
| Commander | S | A in solo (no team to buff) |
| DJ Booth | S | A in solo |
| Ranger | S | A in solo |
| Gatling Gun | S | A in Hardcore |
| Turret | S | A in Hardcore |
| Golden Crook Boss | S | Buffed into S for Fallen and Hardcore |
Best towers to unlock first
If you are early in your account, spend on economy and buffs before chasing damage. A Farm-and-Commander foundation lets you afford everything else, and both are cheap with no heavy level requirements.
| Tower | Unlock cost | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Farm | 2,000 Coins | Economy; pays for itself in roughly 6 waves at max |
| Commander | 4,000 Coins | Firerate buff, no level requirement |
| Cowboy | 4,000 Coins (clear Badlands II) | Hybrid damage and income |
| Minigunner | 8,000 Coins | Reliable sustained damage, no placement limit |
A solid starter loadout is Farm, Commander, and Minigunner, plus any two towers you already own. Prioritize Farm upgrades for money, then pump Minigunner for damage while Commander amplifies the whole line.

Recent changes that moved the meta
The previous major patch introduced Kingpin, an evolved Crook Boss, alongside the returning Boomerang and the newest golden perk, Golden Demoman. Golden Crook Boss also received buffs that lifted it into the top tier for Fallen and Hardcore. The current version added Story Mode, a new matchmaking interface, and an updated lobby, with per-tower balance details still settling as players test the changes.
Note: Golden Demoman is the freshest addition and has limited playtime, so its C placement is the one most likely to move once more Hardcore data comes in.
How this ranking was built
Placements weigh damage output, cost efficiency, detection and utility, and synergy with other towers, measured across early, mid, and late game rather than early testing alone. Mode-specific value is called out where it flips a tower’s grade. These rankings reflect the v2.4.0 era as of August 2026 and will shift as balance settles around the newest towers.
