Mortal Shell 2: How to Get the Clockwork Scythe in the Chamber of Becoming

Reach the Silent Steps, break the four glowing tablets, and put Sariel down for good to claim his weapon.

Reach the Silent Steps, break the four glowing tablets, and put Sariel down for good to claim his weapon.

The Clockwork Scythe is a melee weapon in Mortal Shell 2 carried by Sariel, the Endless, and the only way to take it is to beat him inside the Chamber of Becoming. That dungeon sits at the southern edge of the map in the Silent Steps area of the Ruins of Mammon, and the fight has a twist that stops Sariel from dying until you deal with the room around him.

Quick answer: Fast travel to the Silent Steps Beacon, cross the fortress above to fight Sariel on the open platform, then enter the Chamber of Becoming behind the statue. In the lower arena, destroy all four glowing stone tablets in the corners, then kill Sariel to receive the Clockwork Scythe.

Route to the Chamber of Becoming from the Silent Steps Beacon

The dungeon is a long trek, so it fits a mid-game character better than an early one. Levelling up a few times and upgrading your gear first makes the whole detour smoother, but a confident player can push through with minimal upgrades.

Fast travel to the Silent Steps Beacon, southeast of the Ruins of Mammon. Interact with the Bone Gate in front of the beacon to teleport up to the brutalist fortress structure above.

Run along the stone platform toward the fortress. You will pass a mini-boss area and stone stairs, so keep climbing upward.

Ignore the large enemy that rolls at you with spikes. Dodge past it and keep heading up the stairs until you reach the statue at the top.

Before entering, you first face Sariel out on the open platform near the edge of the fortress. Beat this version of him to open the doorway behind the large statue. Go behind the statue and take the elevator down to reach the Chamber of Becoming.

Note: the first encounter on the platform has no barriers, so you can retreat and regroup if you are not ready. Sariel drops some Gloom and a Glimpse here before he relocates into the dungeon below.

How to beat Sariel, the Endless

Sariel deals lightning damage, and every hit that lands on you inflicts Lightning that slowly drains your health. Equip the Galvanic Shard for Lightning mitigation before the fight, whether as a passive or active effect, to blunt that chip damage. Watch for his ranged homing projectiles fired from the back of his armor and his unpredictable lightning melee swings.

After the elevator, you meet Sariel again in the first room. Bring him to roughly half health and he vanishes, leaving a trail to the next area. Try to stay healthy here, since the real fight is still ahead.

Drop into the final room with the sigil on the floor. Sariel will not stay dead here. Each time you defeat him, he respawns at full health in the center, so beating him normally leads nowhere.
Find the four glowing stone tablets, one in each corner of the arena. A faint yellow glow marks their bases. These pillars are what keep resurrecting the boss.
Destroy all four tablets while dodging his lightning attacks. They can be awkward to hit with melee, so a sidearm from the upper vantage point handles some of them before you drop down to break the rest. You do not need to defeat Sariel between tablets, so break each one whenever you get a safe opening.
With every pillar down, Sariel can finally die for good. Finish him with heavy melee attacks and he stays defeated.

You will know it worked when Sariel drops instead of standing back up, and the on-screen prompt confirms the Clockwork Scythe has been acquired. If he keeps reviving, at least one tablet is still intact.

Every reward from the Chamber of Becoming

Sariel’s arena hands over more than the scythe. After the kill, your screen pulses red to signal a nearby Shell. Approach it to trigger Sariel’s memory, let it play out, and you gain the option to switch to Sariel’s Shell. Then head up the stairs to grab the Caged Hystrix sidearm before you leave.

Buying the Clockwork Scythe map from Merrick

If you would rather have the dungeon pinned on your map before setting out, Merrick sells the Location: Clockwork Scythe map fragment for 3,000 coins. He is found at the Marrow Keep. The map only marks where the weapon is; you still have to run the dungeon and beat Sariel to claim it.

Upgrading the Clockwork Scythe

The scythe wields a long curved thorned blade and carries the Clockwork Chainsaw ability once upgraded. Each level raises its damage, using Ventrium at low levels, then Laterite, then Dorsalite alongside rising coin costs.

LevelDamageMaterials
+1105%Ventrium x2, Coin x100
+3115%Ventrium x4, Coin x300
+6130%Ventrium x18, Coin x1,250
+7135%Laterite x2, Coin x2,750
+10150%Laterite x13, Coin x4,250
+12160%Dorsalite x2, Coin x5,750
+16180%Dorsalite x18, Coin x8,750

For Tarstones, the Clockwork Shardstone and Scholar’s Wormstone lean into the weapon’s chainsaw ability, while the Voltaic Crown adds a Lightning infusion that fits its theme. The Thief’s Stone is a solid combat pick, and Arbiter’s Prize is another infusion option worth slotting.

Once you have the scythe, Sariel’s Shell, and the Caged Hystrix in hand, you can leave the Chamber of Becoming and carry on exploring the rest of the Silent Steps area.
