J’imothy is a secret companion pet added to World of Warcraft in the patch 12.1.0 update “Curse of Ula’tek.” The stumpy raccoon isn’t tied to a quest chain or reputation grind. Instead, he sits trapped inside an Ensorcelled Cryptid, a glowing arcane prison that appears at one of three fixed spots in Silvermoon City. Free him from that barrier and he’s yours.

Quick answer: Travel to one of the three Silvermoon City coordinates below, find the Ensorcelled Cryptid holding J’imothy, click the barrier and channel the spell while dodging the falling orbs until its counter hits zero, then click J’imothy to receive the Stubby Whistle. Use the whistle to add him to your collection.

Where the Ensorcelled Cryptid spawns in Silvermoon City

J’imothy only ever appears at one of three locations at a time, and no Silvermoon Court reputation is required to reach them. The TomTom addon makes the waypoints easy to follow, but the coordinates and landmarks below are enough on their own.

Waypoint Landmark
/way #2393 28.75 46.69 The dwelling on the northwest outskirts, past the university
/way #2393 51.32 53.75 Northeast quadrant (Lithiel’s Landing), under a bridge
/way #2393 58.3 41.9 Lower level, at the end of Murder Row just above its map label

When J’imothy is present, you’ll spot him immediately. He sits inside a blue glowing orb you can target as an Ensorcelled Cryptid. If none of the three spots shows the orb, he simply hasn’t spawned there yet.

How to free J’imothy from the arcane barrier

Click the Ensorcelled Cryptid to begin draining its barrier. This starts a short mini-game where you channel a spell to siphon the arcane energy holding him.
Dodge the glowing circles that spawn on the ground during the channel. Every circle you avoid lowers the buff on the Ensorcelled Cryptid by one point. Getting clipped by a circle does not reset your progress, so keep going even if you take a hit.
Continue until the counter reaches zero and the barrier drops. J’imothy is then freed, and clicking him rewards the Stubby Whistle. Using that whistle adds J’imothy to your pet collection.

Solo, the drain takes roughly five minutes. Each additional player channeling on the same Cryptid lowers the counter faster, so grouping up shortens the process considerably.

Respawn timing and what to do if the spot is empty

The frustrating part is the wait. J’imothy has a lengthy respawn timer, often around twenty minutes, and once he’s been captured at one spot he reappears at a different one of the three locations rather than the same place. If a waypoint comes up empty, rotate through the other two and keep checking back. Patience is the main obstacle here, not difficulty.

J’imothy’s pet details

In your journal, J’imothy is listed as a Critter companion. His entry notes he got into trouble digging through magical garbage in Silvermoon and that you’re the one who helped him out. As a companion, he follows you around but does not carry battle stats of his own, and the pet is unique and not cageable.

For reference, his Critter typing means he’s immune to Stun, Root, and Sleep effects, takes 50% more damage from Beast abilities, and takes 33% less damage from Elemental abilities. The ability set associated with him unlocks across levels as follows.

Ability Unlocks at
Bite Default
Adrenaline Rush Level 2
Poison Fang Level 4
Tongue Lashing Level 10
Counterstrike Level 15
Dodge Level 20

Once the Stubby Whistle is in your bags and used, J’imothy is permanently in your collection, so the only real cost of adding this oddly proportioned raccoon to your roster is the time spent waiting for him to spawn.
