Torrent has looked exactly the same since 2022. That changes with the Tarnished Edition content, which adds three collectible Spectral Steed Regalia — cosmetic outfits for your spectral steed that you find out in the world and equip from a Site of Grace. Counting the default look, that gives you four appearances to rotate between.
Quick answer: Loot the chest in Stormveil Castle’s throne room (Tree Sentinel), the chest behind the table at Ranni’s Rise (Carian Silver), and the pickup by the Sword Monument southeast of the Hermit Merchant’s Shack (Funereal Night). Then rest at any Site of Grace and pick Change spectral steed appearance.

The three skins are spread across Limgrave, Liurnia of the Lakes, and the Altus Plateau, so you can pick them up on a normal playthrough route without much of a detour. Two are in newly added chests. One is a plain world pickup.

How to equip a Torrent skin at a Site of Grace
Equipping is instant and free, and you can do it anywhere. You don’t need to summon Torrent first, and there’s no cost to swapping back.
Spectral Steed Regalia: Tree Sentinel in Stormveil Castle
This one is gated behind a boss, and it’s the gold-plated look modelled on the Tree Sentinel’s barding. The chest only appears in the arena area after Godrick the Grafted is down, so there’s no way to grab it early.
Spectral Steed Regalia: Carian Silver at Ranni’s Rise
The easiest of the three. The chest is in the Three Sisters area of Liurnia of the Lakes, sitting in the very same room as the Ranni’s Rise Site of Grace, so if you’ve already unlocked the tower it’s a ten-second trip.
Spectral Steed Regalia: Funereal Night in the Capital Outskirts
The dark, draped set is the only one not in a chest, and it’s the one people miss. It’s a small item on the ground by the Sword Monument southeast of the Hermit Merchant’s Shack Site of Grace, on the Altus Plateau. The Outer Wall Battleground grace in the Capital Outskirts also works as a starting point.
Note: there is no chest here. If you’re circling the monument hunting for one, you’ll never find it — dismount and sweep the ground around the birch trees instead.
If the skins or the menu option are missing
All three regalia are part of the Tarnished Edition content, which launched on August 27th and 28th, 2026. On Switch 2 it comes with Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition itself; on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC the same additions arrive through the separately purchased Tarnished Pack. Without that content installed, the chests and the pickup simply aren’t in the world, and the appearance option won’t appear in the Site of Grace menu.
The other common snag is the Tree Sentinel chest. It’s placed in a room that only opens up once Godrick the Grafted has been defeated, so if the throne room is still sealed, the fight is your blocker rather than a missing item.
None of the three change Torrent’s speed, health, or double jump. They’re appearance swaps and nothing more, which also means you can collect them at any point in a run and switch between them freely for the rest of the game.
