Override Consoles are the red arcade cabinets that sit inside the landmark buildings scattered across the Chapter 7 Season 4 island. Interacting with one lets you rewrite a rule of the match you are currently playing, and only the first player or squad to touch it gets the pick. The catch is speed: consoles show up on the map for everyone at the same time, and they are almost never close to you.
Quick answer: Open your map, look for the animated Override Console icon, drive or glide to it before anyone else, interact with the cabinet, pick an effect from the “Select an Override” list, and press APPLY. Your username then scrolls across the building’s exterior billboard and the quest ticks up by one.
Find the Override Console icon on the map
Every match includes Override Consoles, and each one is announced by a giant game cartridge dropping out of the sky into the top of a landmark building. On the map and the mini map, that spot is marked with its own animated console icon, listed in the legend alongside Vending Machines and Extraction Sites. You also get a proximity prompt in the world when you get close, along the lines of “Override Console 500m away”.
The single biggest problem with this quest is distance. Consoles regularly land a kilometre or more from wherever you happened to drop, so land with mobility in mind. Grabbing a car early, or a movement item like the Sonic Power Sneakers, is the difference between arriving first and arriving to find someone else’s name already on the wall. Hanging around the middle of the map while you wait for a cartridge to fall shortens the trip in either direction.
A vehicle also solves the second problem, which is the Storm. Consoles keep spawning as the circle shrinks, and a long sprint on foot often means you claim the Override and then die to the Storm on the way out.

Activate the Override at the console

How to confirm the Override registered
There are four separate confirmations, and you only need to see one of them:
- A full-screen announcement fires, reading “Match Override!” followed by the effect name, and the cartridge slots into the roof of the building.
- A message names you directly, in the form “Speed Shooter has been activated by MaksiMara”.
- Your username scrolls across the building’s exterior digital billboard and appears around the base of the console.
- The map screen adds an Active Overrides entry listing the effect and what it does.
For the quest itself, open the Quests menu and look under the Build-A-Wrixel section for Fishsticks. The counter moves from 0/8 to 1/8 the moment the Override applies. Progress is banked immediately, so even if you get eliminated seconds later, the tick still holds.
Note: eight activations means eight separate consoles, and you will rarely claim more than one per match. Plan on spreading this across several games rather than trying to finish it in one.
All 12 Match Override effects
Twelve effects are available. Some rewrite the rules for the whole server, while the Rare and Mythic ones are Squad Overrides that only apply to you and your teammates.
| Override | What it does |
|---|---|
| Sonic Speed | Sprint speed builds up over time |
| Infinite Stamina | Removes the usual sprint limit |
| Speed Shooter | Faster fire rate and reload speed |
| Headshot | Increased headshot damage |
| Power Pickaxe | Pickaxe hits deal huge damage |
| Overshield | Grants extra Overshield, including in modes without it |
| Constant Heal | Health and shield regenerate out of combat |
| Extra Life | One respawn when you are about to be eliminated |
| Big Loot | Higher chance of Epic or Legendary gear in Chests |
| Loot Hack | The next Chest you open gives a Loot Hack item |
| More XP | Extra XP from eliminations, looting, and Storm survival |
| Big Fish | Turns every Fishing Hole golden |
Timing changes how much each one is worth. Big Loot is close to useless if your squad has already stripped the surrounding Chests, and Constant Heal only ticks while you are out of a fight, not while you are being shot at. Extra Life is a single revive, not a safety net.
Squad Overrides broadcast your position
Rare and Mythic Overrides are the stronger, squad-only effects, and taking one comes with a cost. Claiming one reveals your entire squad’s location on the map to every other team in the match. That turns the console building into a magnet within seconds.
Treat the activation as a smash-and-grab. Reload before you touch the cabinet, stay grouped, and get out of the nearest building rather than trying to hold it. Unless your team already has height, cover, and a good angle, defending the console is worse than leaving with the buff.
Why the quest sometimes does not tick up
Three things account for almost every failed attempt. Someone beat you to the console, in which case the cartridge is already spent and there is nothing to claim. You reached the cabinet but were eliminated before pressing APPLY, since opening the menu on its own does nothing. Or you are looking at the wrong thing entirely, mixing up Match Overrides with the season’s other systems.
That last one trips up a lot of people. Lobby Hacks are codes entered on the Admin Panel back in the lobby, Cheat Codes are hidden around the island, and Loot Hacks are bought with Sprite Dust. Only the arcade cabinets that catch a falling cartridge count as Override Consoles, and only those move this quest.
Once you know the icon and keep a car nearby, the eight activations mostly come down to route discipline. Land somewhere with vehicle spawns, drift toward the centre of the map, and be moving the instant a cartridge drops.
