Fishing in Palia usually hands you dinner ingredients. Occasionally it hands you a filthy ball covered in lake gunk, and that single item kicks off Slimy!, a short side quest that ends with a very happy Shepp.

Quick answer: Fish up the Slimy Ball in Bahari Bay, take it to Hassian in Kilima Valley, ask Chayne to clean it so it becomes Tau’s Ball, then hand it to Tau for 10 Renown.

How the Slimy! quest triggers in Palia

There is no NPC to talk to first and no quest board to check. Slimy! starts the moment you reel in the Slimy Ball while fishing in Bahari Bay. It lands in your inventory like any other catch, and the quest log picks it up from there.

Because it comes out of a fishing spot, the ball is a random pull rather than a guaranteed drop from a specific pond. Keep casting in Bahari Bay and it will eventually show up. Once it is in your bag, do not sell it or dump it in the Shipping Bin, since it is the only item the quest chain uses.

Slimy! quest walkthrough: Hassian, Chayne, and Tau

Open your inventory and confirm you are carrying the Slimy Ball. The quest tracker will point you toward Hassian, so pin it if you want the marker on screen while you travel.
Head to Kilima Valley and find Hassian. Bring up the ball in conversation with the line “I fished this ball out from the lake.” He recognizes it and points you at someone who can actually get it clean.

Track down Chayne and ask “Have anything to clean this ball?” You can push back with “Can’t I just clean it myself?”, but the outcome is the same either way. Chayne cleans it, and the Slimy Ball in your inventory becomes Tau’s Ball.

Go to Tau with the cleaned ball. Ask “Recognize this ball?”, choose “Give Tau the Ball”, and follow it with “I fished it up for you.” That hand-off closes the quest.

Slimy! quest objectives and item changes

Three objectives, three characters, one item that quietly changes name partway through. If your log is out of sync with your inventory, this is the fastest way to work out where you stopped.

Slimy! quest reward and how to confirm it is complete

Completing Slimy! grants 10 Renown. You will see the reward pop on screen after Tau takes the ball, and Tau’s Ball leaves your inventory at the same time. If the item is gone and the quest has moved out of your active list, it is done.

Note: if you are still carrying something labeled Slimy Ball rather than Tau’s Ball, Chayne has not cleaned it yet, and Tau will not take it in that state.

It is a small errand by Palia standards, and it exists mostly so a Shepp gets his toy back. Ten Renown for a few minutes of walking between three villagers is a fair trade, especially if you are chipping away at Focus upgrades and want easy quests off the list.
