Order 66 in Star Wars Zero Company: The Extended Cutscene and Trick’s Betrayal

A full breakdown of how Zero Company survives Order 66, loses Bennic, and later frees Trick from his inhibitor chip.

A full breakdown of how Zero Company survives Order 66, loses Bennic, and later frees Trick from his inhibitor chip.

The extended Order 66 cutscene follows the mercenary group Zero Company at the exact moment the Clone Wars ends and the Galactic Empire begins. What starts as a routine assault briefing turns into a betrayal when Emperor Palpatine’s command activates the inhibitor chips in the clone soldiers, including the company’s own founding member, Trick. The sequence covers the ambush, a violent hangar escape, a year on the run, and the eventual mission that restores Trick’s free will.

Quick answer: Order 66 forces Captain Corvo and Trick to turn on Hawks and the non-clone members of Zero Company. The survivors escape into hyperspace, spend a year hiding, and are later contacted by Captain Rex, who arranges the removal of Trick’s inhibitor chip on Ord Mantell.

The setup before Order 66

The cutscene opens with Bennic, Runa, Hawks, and Captain Corvo planning an assault on the asteroid base Vull Quest. Their target is Fathom. The briefing is calm and tactical, with no sign of what is about to happen across the galaxy.

That changes when Palpatine’s hologram appears. He announces the defeat of the Jedi and the rise of the Galactic Empire, the moment that marks the end of the Republic and the beginning of the purge.

How the betrayal unfolds

The turn against Zero Company happens in stages rather than all at once. First, Bennic tells Hawks that the company has been recalled to Coruscant to be processed. It sounds like a bureaucratic order, but it is the trap closing.

Captain Corvo then issues the arrest order for the whole company. When Hawks resists, he is struck down. Under Order 66, Corvo and Trick both turn on Hawks and the non-clone members of the group.

The hangar escape

The escape depends on the non-clone members acting fast. M-3VO and Neesh trigger explosions in the hangar, creating enough chaos for the survivors to break away from the Imperial clones.

Trick, still under the influence of his inhibitor chip, attacks his own allies during the fight. The crew subdues him rather than killing him. The clones retreat, but they carry Bennic away in a transport, leaving him captured and taken back to Coruscant.

Neesh hotwires the ship’s engines, and the surviving crew jumps into hyperspace to escape.

One year later and Rex’s mission

The cutscene jumps forward a full year. Hawks narrates the crew’s life on the run before Runa introduces a new client. That client turns out to be Captain Rex, who contacts the crew directly.

Rex recruits Zero Company for a joint operation with the Umbaran resistance on Umbara. During this contact, he explains the truth about clone inhibitor chips, the same devices that forced Trick to attack his friends.

Removing Trick’s inhibitor chip

The inhibitor chip is what makes Order 66 possible for any clone. It overrides free will and turns the soldier into an obedient executioner on command. Rex offers to cure Trick if he is sent to Ord Mantell, where Rex’s allies can perform the surgery.

The procedure succeeds. Trick returns cured and free from Imperial control, wearing a new set of commando armor provided by Rex’s allies. He carries deep guilt over what he did during Order 66, and Hawks reassures him that the betrayal was not his fault.

Taken together, the extended cut turns Order 66 into a personal story for Zero Company rather than a galaxy-wide montage. The betrayal costs them Bennic and a year of freedom, but the reunion with Rex gives Trick his mind back and reframes his actions as the result of programming rather than choice.
