Devil Fruits in Grand Blue are called Cursed Fruits in-game, and they come out of Fruit Chests rather than being handed to you directly. Every method below is a way of getting more chests to open, and the odds inside those chests never change no matter where the chest came from. The fastest path for a brand new character skips the randomness entirely.
Quick answer: Buy a shovel in Anchor Town, complete Almighty Calvin’s Wizards Apprentice quest, and open Calvin’s Treasure from your inventory for a guaranteed fruit. Then redeem the active codes for free Fruit Chests before farming Celestial Coins.
Almighty Calvin’s Wizards Apprentice quest (guaranteed fruit, one time only)
This is the only source in the game that hands a new player a fruit with no luck involved. It can be completed once per character, and it takes a few minutes.
Calvin’s Treasure does not use the standard chest odds. It rolls from a much narrower pool, which is why it is worth doing early rather than saving.

Every Fruit Chest uses the same table, whether you got it from a code, the Celestial Coin shop, a world boss, or a buried dig site. Half of all openings return a Common fruit, and the top two tiers are well under one percent combined.

Grand Blue codes for free Fruit Chests
Codes are the cheapest chests you will ever get. Open the settings menu, switch to the Codes tab, and type each one into the Enter Code box exactly as written, capital letters and punctuation included. The exclamation mark in Release! is part of the code.

Rewards land in your pending rewards list rather than straight into the world, so check there if a chest does not appear immediately. If a code is rejected, the usual culprits are a trailing space, a missing capital letter, or the code having already been claimed on that account. Codes in this game are tied to milestones and patches, so they do expire.
Celestial Coins and Fruit Chest shop prices
Celestial Coins are the only currency that buys Fruit Chests outright, and they come from three places. Achievements pay out the largest lumps, with milestones like defeating 2,500 NPCs handing over big chunks at once. NPC quests marked with a purple exclamation point give coins on completion, and world events pay out as well.
Once you have a balance, open the Shop menu and check the Fruit Chest bundles. Buying in bulk is cheaper per chest, so saving up for a larger package beats spending coins one chest at a time.

World bosses, tree spawns, and buried chests
World bosses spawn every hour on the hour at XX:00 global time, which makes them the most predictable repeatable source in the game. Clearing one rewards a World Boss Chest, and finishing as MVP rewards two. Those chests have a chance to contain Fruit Chests along with Celestial Coins.
Cursed Fruits also spawn naturally in trees and plants around the map on an hourly cycle. There is no marker for these, so they are worth grabbing when you happen to sail past one rather than something to farm deliberately. Treasure Maps picked up from NPC activities are another route to Fruit Chests once you are further along.
The last source is digging. Fruit Chests are buried across the map and can be struck with a shovel, and the Treasure Hunter outfit doubles your odds of hitting one thanks to its Treasure Sense passive. The outfit drops from the beach NPCs on the side of Anchor Town, the same enemies you fight during Calvin’s quest.

If a dig spot will not respond
The most common blocker during Calvin’s quest is a dig site that refuses to register your shovel. Hitting it with a Strong Punch first resets the spot, after which digging works normally. If the quest still will not advance, confirm you actually have a shovel equipped and that you are standing on the marked location rather than near it.
You will know the quest is done when Calvin’s Treasure appears in your inventory. Open it there, and the fruit itself drops into your bag as a separate item.
