Qingxiao arrived in Wuthering Waves version 3.6 as a 5-star Aero Sword main DPS whose damage scales with how much Tune Strain her teammates generate. That single design choice is why the second slot in her team has become the real question. Denia rerun alongside her, and the two units are frequently paired, but Lynae covers a lot of the same job.
Quick answer: Denia is not required. Qingxiao functions with Lynae and Mornye, but in a fully maxed test against a Level 100 Sentry Construct: Gargoyle in Hazard Tower Floor 1, the Denia team finished in roughly 31 seconds while the Lynae team took 1 minute and 5 seconds.
Why Qingxiao’s support slot changes her damage
Qingxiao applies Tune Strain – Shifting with her own skills and responds to Tune Strain – Interfered. Every time any Resonator on the team inflicts Tune Strain – Interfered, the target gains a stack of Mindlock, which caps at 15. Each Mindlock stack amplifies the damage the target takes from her Heavy Attack – Stringblade, both Ephemeral Transcendence attacks, Heaven’s Reckoning, and her Resonance Liberation by 2 percent, with an extra 5 percent per stack for the first seven stacks.
Against Overlord and Calamity class enemies she stacks Mindlock even faster, since each Tune Strain – Interfered application on those targets adds a bonus stack. The practical result is simple. A teammate who reliably feeds Tune Strain pushes her into her damage window sooner and keeps her amplification near the cap. A teammate who does not do that leaves multipliers on the table.
Denia vs Lynae: What each one brings
Both units can fill the Tune Strain slot, but they are built differently and pull your account in different directions.
| Denia | Lynae | |
|---|---|---|
| Element | Fusion | Spectro |
| Role | 5-star Rectifier sub-DPS with Tune Break support | Tune Strain applier with offensive buffs |
| Core contribution | Switches between two modes, amplifying team mechanics | Applies Tune Strain and Tune Rupture – Shifting |
| Extra utility | AoE grouping and crowd control, which helps single-target DPS units land full rotations | Broad multi-team flexibility |
| Other teams | Only sub-DPS for the Fusion Burst archetype; strong with Aemeath, Luuk Herssen, and Paragon of Mengzhou | Slots into several rosters, so pulling Denia can free her for another team |
Denia’s grouping matters more than it looks on paper. Qingxiao is one of the strongest single-target damage dealers in 3.6, and pulling scattered enemies into one place turns that single-target profile into something closer to AoE.
Hazard Tower clear time comparison
The cleanest way to see the gap is a controlled fight. Both runs used Hazard Tower Floor 1 against a Level 100 Sentry Construct: Gargoyle, with Qingxiao and Mornye fixed and only the third slot swapped.
| Team | Clear time | Timer remaining |
|---|---|---|
| Qingxiao, Denia, Mornye | About 31 seconds | 04:29 |
| Qingxiao, Mornye, Lynae | 1 minute 5 seconds | 03:55 |
Read that as a ceiling comparison rather than a typical account result. Every character in both runs sat at Level 90/90 with all six Resonance Chains unlocked, using Rank 1 weapons. The Lynae team still cleared the floor with nearly four minutes to spare, which is the more important takeaway for anyone deciding whether to spend pulls.
Builds used in both runs
Weapons and Echo sets were kept consistent across the swap, so the difference in clear time comes from the units themselves rather than from gear disparity.
| Character | Weapon | Echo set (5-piece) |
|---|---|---|
| Qingxiao (Aero) | Glint of Clouds | Sierra Sough |
| Denia (Fusion) | Forged Dwarf Star | Rest of Spilled Memories |
| Mornye (Fusion) | Starfield Calibrator | Halo of Starry Radiance |
| Lynae (Spectro) | Static Mist | Pact of Neonlight Leap |
Qingxiao ran 2,551 ATK with 84.5 percent Crit. Rate and 283.8 percent Crit. DMG, plus 116.8 percent Energy Regen to keep her Liberation cycling.

Lynae sat at 1,953 ATK with 69.7 percent Crit. Rate, 270.2 percent Crit. DMG, and 131.2 percent Energy Regen. Denia’s line was close, at 2,130 ATK, 76.1 percent Crit. Rate, and 271.2 percent Crit. DMG. Mornye ran a support-oriented spread with 4,041 DEF and 255.8 percent Energy Regen.

Team options for Qingxiao, ranked by what you own
The pattern with Tune Strain teams is consistent. The more teammates who meaningfully interact with the mechanic, and the better invested they are, the higher the whole team’s output climbs.
- Qingxiao, Denia, Mornye — the highest-output option, and the one that produced the 31-second clear.
- Qingxiao, Lynae, Mornye — noticeably slower but fully functional, and it clears the same content comfortably.
- Qingxiao, Sanhua, Verina — the free-to-play fallback if you own neither Denia nor Lynae.
Note: Qingxiao is investment-heavy and leans hard on Glint of Clouds. If your pulls are limited, her signature weapon is generally the better spend before a second support unit.
When skipping Denia makes sense
Skip her if Qingxiao is the only team she would serve and you already own Lynae. The clear time difference is real, but it is a speed gap in content that both teams complete, not a wall.
Pull her if you own Aemeath, Luuk Herssen, or Paragon of Mengzhou, or if you need Mornye for a second team. Denia is the only sub-DPS covering the Fusion Burst archetype, and she is easily the more flexible of the two across an account. That flexibility, more than the Hazard Tower number, is the argument for spending on her.
One caveat worth keeping in mind before drawing conclusions from any clear time. Both runs used S6 units, and Qingxiao’s Resonance Chains change how much Mindlock she can stack, with S2 raising the cap on nearby enemies to 25. At lower Sequences the gap between the two teams will not scale the same way.
