Chasing the Sky is the aerial time trial tucked into Heaven’s Threshold, the second chapter of the Hidden Mountain expansion in Where Winds Meet. You strap into a mechanical glider at Rollstone Hollow, thread a chain of Wind Hubs, and land on a marked platform before the clock empties. Clear it once and you permanently unlock the Windrider Kite mechanism.
Quick answer: Track Chasing the Sky in the Chrono Exploration menu, fast travel to Rollstone Hollow in Heaven’s Threshold, accept the challenge from the NPC with “Sure, I’ll try.”, then jump off the platform and fly through every orange Wind Hub in order while shooting Flying Marquis with Feather Darts to keep the timer alive. Landing on the end platform completes it.
Unlock requirement: Heaven’s Threshold must be open first
Chasing the Sky does not appear on a fresh character. It becomes available at the same moment Heaven’s Threshold itself opens, which happens after the all-player construction progress in The Cloudtop Ascent finishes on your server. That progress is shared, so you cannot rush it alone, and no amount of solo questing will surface the challenge early.
Once the region is open, the challenge shows up as an exploration objective with the prompt “Complete [Chasing the Sky] at this location” attached to Rollstone Hollow. It is one of the entries feeding the Heaven’s Threshold Fun completion meter.

How to start and finish the flight

Flying Marquis and Feather Darts: How the timer extends
The clock is not fixed. Flying Marquis targets hover near the flight path, and shattering one with a Feather Dart adds five seconds back to the remaining time. They are placed close enough to the ring line that you rarely need to detour, which is the whole point of the design.
Aim while you are already gliding toward the next hub instead of stopping to line up a shot. Treat the darts as an extension of your route, not a side objective. A clean run through the course with a handful of targets picked off along the way lands comfortably inside the limit, and finishing times around the 50 second mark are normal.
How to confirm the challenge counted
Three things confirm the completion. A Success screen appears with your recorded time. The exploration reward prompt lets you claim progress, pushing Heaven’s Threshold Fun from its previous value to 100 percent. And the Windrider Kite appears as a newly unlocked entry in the Mechanisms menu, filed under The Gateway (Hidden Mountain).
Note: claim the reward from the exploration prompt after the run. Landing successfully finishes the challenge, but the completion percentage only updates once the reward is collected.
Why a run fails
- Wind Hubs were taken out of order. The rings must be cleared in sequence, so skipping ahead means backtracking.
- The timer ran out because no Flying Marquis were shot. Ignoring the darts entirely leaves very little margin.
- You drifted past the end platform instead of touching down on it. The challenge only registers on the landing zone.
- The challenge is not in the Chrono Exploration list at all, which means Heaven’s Threshold has not opened on your server yet.
The course is short enough that a failed attempt costs almost nothing. Restart from the NPC, take the first two hubs slightly wider than feels natural, and use the early Flying Marquis to bank seconds before the tighter middle stretch. The Windrider Kite stays unlocked once you have it, and the Heaven’s Threshold Fun meter closes out at the same time.
