The Blood of Dawnwalker: The Quest Chain to Follow After the Prologue

The clearest early path runs from Firebrand to Echoes of Silenced Bells while raising Coen's Infamy to level four.

The clearest early path runs from Firebrand to Echoes of Silenced Bells while raising Coen’s Infamy to level four.

The Blood of Dawnwalker drops the “main quest” structure entirely. Once the prologue ends, nothing forces you toward a specific objective, and there are no formal side quests either. That freedom is the point, but it can leave you stalled at the first fork. If you want a route that steadily weakens Brencis and moves Coen toward saving his family, one connected chain of quests does exactly that.

Quick answer: Start Firebrand, follow it into Under Watchful Eyes and Shadows in the Woods, then raise Coen’s Infamy to level four by attacking Ambrus, Xanthe, and Bakir operations through the Gilded Gauntlet and Bittersweet Toast quests before finishing with Echoes of Silenced Bells.

Early quest order after the prologue

These are the quests the game naturally steers you toward first. They connect to each other, so completing one usually opens the next. Following them in this order keeps Coen’s goal moving forward instead of leaving you to wander.

OrderQuestPurpose
1FirebrandOpening thread that branches into the next quest
2Under Watchful EyesContinues from Firebrand and leads to Mert’s plea
3Shadows in the WoodsIntroduces the Manumits and sets Coen’s next goal
4Ambrus’s Transports, Dungeons, CellarsAttack Ambrus’s operations to build Infamy
5Gilded GauntletAmbrus challenges Coen to a duel
6Bittersweet ToastBranches from Gilded Gauntlet and weakens Ambrus
7Echoes of Silenced BellsGathers information on Brencis and how to beat him

How the quest chain connects

Begin with Firebrand. It flows directly into Under Watchful Eyes, so you do not need to search for the next objective on your own.

Finish Under Watchful Eyes. At its end, Mert asks Coen to rescue Sara, which triggers Shadows in the Woods.
Play through Shadows in the Woods. Coen meets the Manumits and tries to join them. Completing it locks in Coen’s next goal and points you toward raising Infamy.
Open Brencis’s Court and start hitting Ambrus’s holdings. Hunt his camps, outposts, blood transports, and anything else under his control. This pushes your Infamy upward and provokes Ambrus.
Once Ambrus is angered enough, he challenges Coen to a duel, which starts the Gilded Gauntlet. This is a large quest that branches into Bittersweet Toast.
Progress through Bittersweet Toast to weaken Ambrus, then return to defeat him and close out the Gilded Gauntlet.
After Ambrus falls, Coen is strong enough to meet Anca and move into Echoes of Silenced Bells, where you learn more about Brencis and his weaknesses.

Reaching Infamy level four to join the Manumits

Joining the Manumits requires Coen to reach Infamy level four and hit the notorious milestone. Defeating Ambrus only carries you to around level three, so you still have work to do afterward.

To close the gap, keep striking soldiers and their camps. Do not limit yourself to Ambrus. Target Xanthe and Bakir operations as well until your Infamy ticks up to level four.

Tip: Because Infamy rises from attacking enemy operations, treat every camp, outpost, and transport you clear as progress toward the level-four requirement rather than a detour.

This route is optional

Nothing in the game locks you into this chain. You can ignore all of it and shape your own approach, since the world is built around choosing your own threads to follow. What this sequence gives you is a clear path to weaken Brencis, defeat him, and save Coen’s family, which makes it a reliable starting point when the open structure feels overwhelming.

These quests fill the first several hours after the prologue and, more than that, they establish the rhythm for everything after. Follow the chain if you want direction, or branch off whenever you decide a different thread is worth your time.
