The Blood of Dawnwalker: Broad Swing Manual Location

The Broad Swing Manual is one of the Swordmastery skill books in The Blood of Dawnwalker, and like every manual in the game, it exists to unlock a new option in Coen’s development tree rather than to be equipped. There are two reliable ways to get it: pull it off a body at a bandit camp, or buy it outright from a Swordmastery Teacher once you have recruited one.

Quick answer: Clear the Bandit Camp east of Eastlea Glen and loot the fallen bandits — the Broad Swing Manual drops there. If you have already recruited Constantin, Catalin’s Tutor, or Ocha, you can simply buy a copy from their stock instead.

Manuals are not one-per-save collectibles. They turn up in chests at open world sites like bandit camps and soldier camps, they appear as quest rewards, they sit in vendor stock, and they drop randomly from defeated enemies. That means there is no fixed cap on how many copies of the Broad Swing Manual you can end up holding.

Bandit Camp east of Eastlea Glen: The fastest route

The camp sits in snowy, high ground terrain around a wooden cabin. If the icon has not appeared on your map yet, climb the nearest Tower first — towers mark surrounding activities with white “?” icons, and walking near one reveals what type of site it is.

Open the map and zoom into the area directly east of Eastlea Glen. Find the Bandit Camp icon and set it as your tracked waypoint so the marker stays on screen while you move.

Fast travel to the closest Shrine and cover the rest on foot. There are no mounts in Laslea, so the quickest options are the Vampirism skill Shapeshift or the Witchcraft skill Mercurial Fervour, both of which raise your movement speed considerably.

Approach the cabin and expect to be spotted immediately. Several bandits rush you at once, so pull them toward open ground rather than fighting with your back to the building.

Deal with the Renegade Bruiser. This is the toughest enemy in the group and gets its own health bar at the top of the screen, so treat it as the priority target once the smaller bandits are thinned out.

Clean up the stragglers around the cabin, including the wolf that joins the fight. Enemies here spread out around the structure, so sweep the perimeter before you assume the camp is clear.

Watch for the autosave. The game saves automatically once the final bandit goes down, which is your signal that the encounter is over and looting is safe.

Loot every body, not just the Bruiser. The Broad Swing Manual sits in one of the fallen bandits’ inventories alongside Denarius, a Ruby Brooch, Mortal’s Bane Brew, and Hunter’s Trousers.

Buying the Broad Swing Manual from Swordmastery Teachers

Three of the game’s four Swordmastery Teachers stock the manual, which makes purchasing it the safer route if you want extra copies without hunting camps. None of them are available from the start — each has to be recruited through a fight or a quest first.

Constantin	He is the boss of the soldier camp in the south-west corner of Rock Falls. Beat him, accept his offer to teach you, and spare his life.
Catalin’s Tutor	At the pillory outside Lunar Manor, clear the enemies, then choose “I’m not letting anyone hurt this man”. Track the sub-quest “Bakir’s Pillories: Catalin’s Tutor” to his camp north-west of the manor and win the duel.
Ocha	Start “The Heart Wants What It Wants” by talking to her in the corner of the Svartrau City tavern, visit Andrei’s hideout at night through the open balcony door, then meet her again.

Ursul, the fourth teacher, does not carry the Broad Swing Manual. His stock leans toward defensive and counter skills instead, so skip him if this specific manual is what you are after.

Teachers are marked on the map with a white “word” icon, but that icon only shows up after the relevant quest or fight makes them available.

How to confirm the manual worked

Picking up the book is only half of it. A manual does nothing while it sits in your inventory — Coen has to read it, and reading it makes a new entry purchasable in the development tree rather than granting the skill outright.

Read the Broad Swing Manual from your inventory, then open the Character menu and check the Swordmastery tree. If it registered, Broad Swing will now be selectable for purchase where it previously was not. If nothing changed there, the manual is still unread in your bag.

Note: Vampirism skills do not use manuals at all. Those upgrades are gated behind your Corruption Level, which rises by drinking blood, so no book will unlock them.

If the camp east of Eastlea Glen has already been cleared on your save, the vendors are the dependable fallback — random enemy drops can produce manuals too, but you cannot plan around them. Given how much of Laslea’s 10km² map is unfogged by climbing Towers and linking Shrines, it is worth doing that pass early so camps like this one are already marked when you go looking for a specific skill book.
