Early access and how to start on April 7

Early access is tied to the digital Premium and Premium Plus editions only. Buyers of either version can play the full base game 24 hours before the standard launch, which puts the start at April 7, 2027. The physical Collector’s Edition includes the Story Expansion Pass but does not grant the 24-hour head start.

To confirm your pre-order registered correctly, check that the Mecha-Chocobo & Moogle Summon Materia shows in your order or entitlements, since that bonus applies to every edition. Early access will only unlock if you own a Premium or Premium Plus digital edition specifically.

Story Expansion Pass and DLC timing

The Story Expansion Pass adds two story-centered downloadable content packs. The first focuses on Sephiroth, and the second on Vincent and the Turks. Both are planned for release between Winter 2027 and Spring 2028, and each will also be sold separately after its own release. The pass itself is sold separately at launch and comes bundled with the Premium, Premium Plus, and Collector’s editions.

What the finale adds

Revelation picks up directly from Rebirth and adapts the remaining stretch of the original story, from the party’s visit to the Great Glacier through the final confrontation at the Northern Crater. It runs on an open world that you traverse using the Highwind airship, and you can parachute down to points of interest across the map, a first for the trilogy.

Cid Highwind and Vincent Valentine join as new playable party members. Combat is expanded through the FITS system, which lets characters equip specialized outfits tied to classic classes such as Warrior, Knight, Black Mage, and Summoner, each changing both abilities and appearance. You can swap the active character on the fly, use a grappling gun to scale rooftops, and decide which party members take on certain quests, which shapes how some events play out. The Queen’s Blood card minigame returns with a new campaign centered on Red XIII.

With the launch date locked to April 8, 2027, the remaining unknowns are the finer details of the two story DLC packs, which Square Enix plans to reveal closer to release.
