RF Online Next Chapter 10-22: How to Beat Black Lotan Without Legendary Gear

The stat benchmark, the Peaceful Secret Lab route, and the hit-and-run pattern that ends the Black Lotan fight on Epic gear.

Chapter 10-22 asks you to defeat Black Lotan inside the Peaceful Secret Lab, and the fight has a reputation for being a Legendary-gear wall. It isn’t. A fully built Epic-tier setup clears it, provided you respect the boss’s red ground markers and stop trying to trade hits with it.

Quick answer: Enter the Peaceful Secret Lab, clear the security robots, grab the security code and use the gate console to open the inner door, then kill Black Lotan by striking in short bursts and moving out of every red area indicator. Around 2,150 ATK, 2,130 DEF and roughly 134,000 Combat Power on Epic gear is enough.

Stat benchmark for clearing 10-22 on Epic gear

These are the numbers a clear was completed with, so treat them as a floor rather than a target you need to exceed. Nothing here is Legendary tier.

Stat or loadout slotValue at clear
Total ATK2,156
Total DEF2,131
Total ACC1,591
Combat Power134,111

MAULv. 4 Kraken
LauncherLv. 52 Chiron Laser Cannon

Accuracy matters more than raw attack here. If your hits are landing but the damage feels slow, that is normal for this fight and not a sign you need better gear.

Peaceful Secret Lab route to the Black Lotan arena

Enter the Peaceful Secret Lab and interact with the gate console at the entrance. This is what starts the sequence, and nothing else in the room responds until you use it.
Deal with the security robots that spawn once the console is active. They arrive in waves and swarm rather than hit hard, so keep moving and clear them in groups instead of pulling one at a time.

Pick up the security code the robots leave behind, then return to the console and activate it. The inner door opens and gives you access to the boss area.

Note: cutscenes and dialogue between these beats can be skipped with the SKIP prompt if you are running this a second time on another character.

Black Lotan fight: hit-and-run pattern

Black Lotan telegraphs almost everything with red area-of-effect markers on the floor. The entire fight comes down to reading those markers rather than out-gearing the boss, which is why an Epic setup works.

Open with a short burst of damage, then immediately reposition. Do not commit to a long attack chain while standing still.
The moment a red zone appears under or near you, break off and move outside it. Getting clipped repeatedly is the main reason under-geared runs fail here.
Re-engage as soon as the marker resolves and repeat the cycle. The fight is a long one at this gear level, so accept a slower kill rather than trading damage to speed it up.

The quest tracker reads “10-22 Defeat Black Lotan 0/1” throughout, and flips over when the boss goes down.

How to confirm 10-22 is finished

Killing the boss is not the last beat. After the fight you check on Sitz Paro, then head for the exit while the HUD objective updates to “10-22 Exit the Complete” with a cyan waypoint pointing the way out.

Leaving the lab through that waypoint completes the Secret Space Discovery quest, which is your confirmation that the chapter step registered. If you defeated Black Lotan but the chapter has not advanced, you almost certainly have not walked out through the exit yet.

Cheap defense boost: the market gear swap

If your DEF is short of the benchmark, the market is usually faster than enhancing. Buying a higher-enhanced copy of a piece you already own and selling your old one back closes most of the gap for very little net spend.

TransactionItemPrice
Purchase+9 Prime Cut-Resistant Neck Guard3,500
Sale+6 Prime Cut-Resistant Neck Guard2,099
Net costThree enhancement levels1,401

The same logic applies to any defensive slot where the price gap between enhancement tiers is small. Check both sides of the trade before you buy, since the sale value of your current piece is what makes the swap worth doing.

Collection bonuses worth checking before the run

Active Collection sets feed directly into your combat stats, and event categories are easy to leave unclaimed. Open the Collection menu and work through the Event tab before you enter the lab, since anything sitting there uncollected is free stat weight you are not using in the fight.

Chapter 10 pushes the story into the frozen region of Severia, and later steps get harder than 10-22. Getting through the Black Lotan fight on Epic gear is a useful gauge, because if you can hold the hit-and-run pattern here without dying, your gear is not the thing holding you back further into the chapter.
