Where the prisoner transport spawns, what the dialogue choices change, and how to collect the Master Bracers in Svartrau.

Fate’s Mercy is one of the two Ambrus’s Prisoners jobs in The Blood of Dawnwalker, and it is about as short as side content gets. You find a prisoner escort on the road, kill the guards, and free the captives. One of them, a smith’s apprentice named Danylo, offers to pay you back at his shop in Svartrau, which turns into a separate follow-up quest called A Good Deed Is Its Own Reward.

Quick answer: Follow the road north from the fortified Military Camp until you hit the escort, kill the three guards, and speak to the prisoners in the cutscene. The quest closes on the spot for 250 XP and 1 Skill Point, and it burns 3 time.

Where the Fate’s Mercy prisoner transport spawns

Ambrus is the boyar collecting blood tithe across the northern part of Vallis Sangora, and his transports move, so there is no single fixed marker to run to. Both Ambrus’s Prisoners quests sit along the western edge of his territory, on the road that runs from Svartrau City’s northeastern gate out to the Military Camp west of the Stoneward Post shrine.

Fate’s Mercy specifically tends to be north of that Military Camp. Pick up the road there and keep heading north until the escort appears and the objective flips to “Intercept the transport.” From the fast travel side, the encounter sits just south of the Western Slopes shrine, which is usually the faster approach if you have already unlocked it.

Note: If you run into an escort on the southern stretch of the same road, that is the sister quest, Lucky Crossing. They are separate jobs with separate rewards.

Fate’s Mercy walkthrough: Fight, dialogue, and completion

Engage the escort and kill all three guards. There is nothing scripted to protect here, so you can open however you like, day or night.

Clean up any stragglers before the cutscene will fire. The fight only ends once every guard in the group is down.

Talk to the freed prisoners when the scene starts. Coen reassures them, and one of them steps forward to offer something more concrete than thanks.

Pick either reply. “I’m all ears” gets you straight to the offer, while “I don’t do this to be rewarded” plays modest. Both land in the same place, with Danylo inviting you to his shop in Svartrau.

Watch for the confirmation. You will see “QUEST ENDED” for Ambrus’s Prisoners: Fate’s Mercy along with XP (250) and Skill Points (1) on screen. Time also advances, so it may be a different part of the day when you regain control.

The follow-up costs no time at all, which matters in a game where the clock only moves when you act. Freeing the escort also chips away at Ambrus’s tithe collection, so it is not purely a loot run.

How to claim the Master Bracers in Svartrau

Danylo is not going anywhere, so you can leave A Good Deed Is Its Own Reward sitting in your log for as long as you want and cash it in whenever you are next passing through the city.

Travel to Altenmarkt, the market district along the northwestern edge of Svartrau City. It has to be daytime, since the stalls and shops shut down at night.
Head into the middle of the market square and look for the building raised up on stilts. That is the market hall where the Smith’s Apprentice works.
Take the stairs up and talk to Danylo. You can hear out his backstory or skip straight to collecting, and he hands over a master-quality (blue) pair of bracers either way. The quest closes as soon as you take them.

Why Fate’s Mercy or the reward fails to trigger

There are only a couple of ways this goes wrong. If you clear the road and nothing happens, you almost certainly ran into the wrong escort, since Lucky Crossing uses the same stretch of road and the transports wander between visits.

  • Feeding on the freed prisoners at night. If you are playing as a vampire after dark, leave them alone, because you need the smith’s apprentice alive to collect the bracers.
  • Arriving in Altenmarkt at night. Danylo will not be at the market hall, so wait for daylight before making the trip.

Weighed against everything else competing for your 30 days, Fate’s Mercy is cheap. Three time for a Skill Point and a free pair of master bracers picked up on a trip you were probably making anyway is one of the better small trades in Vallis Sangora, even if the bracers themselves are unlikely to survive long in your loadout.
